My dentist wants my wisdom teeth! They're not causing me any pain, no infection, so I don't see what his reasoning is. Is it absolutely necessary?

No way can it be said that it is absolutely necessary. Many people go through their life with their wisdom teeth present and they do just fine. It is sometimes a matter of statistics. Most people do not have enough room in their mouth for their wisdom teeth to come fully into place. If they are not fully in place, they can cause gum trouble. Also most people don't keep the wisdom teeth clean enough to prevent cavities. So when they decay, they can cause pain, and they are often very difficult to work on given that they are so far back in your mouth.
Dentists for the most part recommend wisdom tooth extractions because they are usually more trouble than they are worth. Often times the top and bottom wisdom teeth don't touch, so they aren't even working for you. They just sit back there collecting palque. So they often decay, break down and hurt. And you already have 8 other molars. More than enough to chew with, and more than enough to support your bite. Wisdom teeth are really just not needed.
Also, the younger you are the better when it comes to removing wisdom teeth. Your jaw bone becomes more dense the older you get. So it is easier to remove a tooth from the bone while it is not as dense. Also, the younger you are the better you heal.
So...is it absolutely necessary, probably not. Is it a good idea...yes usually.

Some people are lucky and their teeth grow in straight. Those people are lucky because their jaws are just a wee bit longer than the people who have to have their wisdom teeth out. Also, if the wisdom tooth develops crooked it will have to come out.

My dentist also wants to remove mine, although I have no pain (yet) from them. He says it's because my mouth is too small. They just won't fit in and will cause lots of pain and tooth problems later.

It's better to have them out than in.

Leaving them in can lead to cosmetic disaster, as they can push all your teeth up at least 2 teeth spaces, making your front teeth stick straight out.

Although, it's not unheard of to keep them in just for kicks.
