My friend says that JESUS IS GOD, and that is the Christian interpretation, and that the Catholic interpretation is that Jesus is the son of God. Which one is correct according to the bible?

This is a message LineDancer sent me when I wasn't clear on the trinity:

True Christians don't believe God is a trinity. Instead, they believe what the Bible says. At Ps. 83:18, Jehovah is called the Most High. If the trinity were true--which it isn't--that would mean that there are THREE Most Highs. Tell me, how can you have more than one Most High? You can't.

The trinity doctrine did not exist in Jesus' day. It did not come along until over 300 years after Jesus died

Me: So, then why is the trinity doctrine being held in high esteem by many Christians?

LineDancer:The trinity is based on the Catholic Athanasian Creed. It includes the following definite ideas:

1. There are said to be three divine persons—the Father, the Son, and the holy spirit—in the Godhead.

2. Each of these separate persons is said to be eternal, none coming before or after the other in time.

3. Each is said to be almighty, with none greater or lesser than the other.

4. Each is said to be omniscient, knowing all things.

5. Each is said to be true God.

6. However, it is said that there are not three Gods but only one God.

I invite you to search the Bible, especially the 27 books of the Christian Greek Scriptures, to see for yourself if Jesus and his disciples taught a Trinity. As you search, ask yourself:

1. Can I find any scripture that mentions “Trinity”?

2. Can I find any scripture that says that God is made up of three distinct persons, Father, Son, and holy spirit, but that the three are only one God?

3. Can I find any scripture that says that the Father, Son, and holy spirit are equal in all ways, such as in eternity, power, position, and wisdom?

If a person is honest with himself, he will have to admit that the trinity is not Bible-based. It is a man-made doctrine.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God

John1:14 The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.

When Jesus was baptised, a voice from heaven said, 'This is my beloved Son in whom I'm well pleased' They are both correct according to the bible. The Christian interpretation is that God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Both....its a concept called the Trinity. Essentially God is made of three entities...Father (God), Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit.

So Jesus is both the Son of God and God himself at the same time.

Here is a good Catholic explanation in detail...

OK and for those below who say that there is no scriptural reference to the Trinity...
Matthew 28:19, "go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."

I think the language that's actually used in the Bible is that he "is in God." Meaning that they are not exactly the same, but part of a holy trinity, along with the holy spirit.

Protestants and Catholics alike believe that Jesus is the holy son of God. That's what makes them Christian.

Both.... 1 Timothy 3:16( KJV) " And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory."
Isaiah 9:6: "For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace."
And Jesus as God's Son: Matthew 3:17 "and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased."
Luke 3: 21-22
"Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form as a dove, and a voice came from heaven, "Thou art my beloved Son; with thee I am well pleased."
The latter and amazing situation where all 3 persons in the Trinity were present.
Hope this helps, have a great one! There's many many more verses you can research.
Be blessed! =)

The Bible says Jesus is the son of God. Here's a couple scriptures where it says so...

John 20:31 "But these have been written down that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God, and that, because of believing, you may have life by means of his name."

Colossians 1:15 "He [Jesus] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation" (or in other words his first son)

According to the Bible, Jesus is the son of God. He is God's only begotten son.

Well actually the Catholic church teaches the Trinity...Father Son and Holy Spirit...they are 1 in the same. As a Christian who attends a baptist church we also believe in the Trinity. I became a Catholic in order to marry my husband. I think the Priest teaching the class was glad to be rid of me because I could just not let this go because it was very difficult for me to understand and wrap my head around. Now that I am a Christian my faith has finally made me understand it.

Yes it says both and both are true...God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The son did become man Jesus Christ...This is a part of the whole of God which makes him God and is also the Son of the Father which also makes him the Son of God...He is more than flesh but he became flesh for us.

KJV has been the most accurately translated bible from the ancient texts. In it, it says

John 1.1 .... and the Word was God and with God.

There are others, but I'm at work and can't get into my program to get them for you.

The bible does state the yes, Jesus is God in the flesh.
