Getting new granite countertops, Keywest Gold. Must choose new sink. Think I would like a black composite sink. Does anyone know if that or a stainless sink is better?

A stainless steel sink isn't all it's cracked up to be, for many reasons:
1 - The surface shows water spots and must be cleaned continually to hide them.
2 - Stainless steel sinks dull when scrubbed and scratch easily. They must then be polished out with a special stainless steel cleaner to restore the luster.
3 - Stainless sinks trap odors. Try pouring a beer into a stainless steel sink. Even after you rinse it, the steel takes on the odor of the beer until it is scrubbed clean.
4 - All but the most expensive stainless sinks can be noisy. The cost of a stainless steel sink depends a lot on the amount of sound dampening that is installed on the back of the sink. This is usually in the form of a rubber coating on the back that acts as an insulator. Cheap stainless sinks do not have this coating.
5 - If you drop something into the sink and dent it, you'll be looking at that dent hating it until you replace the sink.
Otherwise, stainless steel sinks are just fine.

It really depends if you have a show kitchen or a daily use kitchen. If you use the sink regularly the black composite will hold up a little better. Depending on the hardness of your water the black sink will develop water stains and discoloration if not completely wiped dry after each use. The good news is that it is very durable and will not scratch very easily. Stainless shows every water spot, scratches very easy, and even a $1500 - $2500 sink will have these same properties. I would consider a composite sink just not black.

Oh how lucky you are! I'm so envious! They make so many new, beautiful sinks now, I'd go crazy trying to decide. I know I never would have a S.S. sink! You drop something in it,(and you know you will) they bend or dent. They get all scratched up, and I think they look ugly! Take a closer look at the other ones. I heard of, believe it or not, a soap stone sink is good. Who knows? Let me know what you choose, I'm just interested. I love Home Remodelling. Good Luck, Bye

I have a under-mounted rangemaster stainless steel sink, with a built in insinkerator waste disposal and I would highly recommend it. It is very easy to clean too.

as stated above composite sinks are very durable. All sinks have there downfalls, i do not think one is any better then another, what i tell my customers is to choose what they think looks best, my only recommendation is that it shod be a undermount sink, if it was my choice it would be a black composite sink.
