Yeah I have had scams like this before and I had a blast playing with them letting them think they had me.

play along with them to a point try to get a mailing address and name first and last as well as a phone number but do it slowly and as if you are interested.

see if they have a website as well that you can look at and an e-mail & a Brad and Dunn street .

once you have all that information from the supposed marketers you can go to a site such as www.whitepages.com and do a reverse telephone number search, or a search on their personal names. Go to the Better Business Bureau and see if they are listed in it and then if they are legit, then decide if you want it or not.

IF they are not legit and are frauds you have all the information you need to file a report with the police in your county as well as in their's by calling their cities police department by verifying their address as legit, you can also ping their website address and see if it gives you similar information as to what they are telling you.

If you think they are frauds call both police departments, the BBB, as well as Consumer Affairs and any banking or credit card or personal information you gave them about you that could cost you money call them immediately and tell them before they run up a bill on you.

good luck.

There are many ways people can get a phone number, listed or not. Scammers are sneaky people.

I'm glad you did your homework and didn't give out your credit card numbers to them. That's what they are fishing for. One of the most popular ways scammers get money out of people is by telling them they are trying to verify their credit card number, then ask the person to tell them what it is. Why anyone would fall for something like that is beyond me, but people do all the time.

IF they call you back, get their phone number, the name of the person you talk to, their supervisor's name, the company's address and general phone number. Since you say they are supposed to be calling you back tonight, I'm guessing they won't. Most scammers, if they don't get what they are after the first time, are stupid to call back with a "follow up" call. They're treading on deadly waters if they do.

If you are lucky enough to get their information, contact the Better Business Bureau, and your bank. Tell both who called you, the date(s), and what the calls were about. Sounds like you already gave your bank a heads up (kudo's for that!). You're on the right track.

Now the only other thing you need to do is register with the national do not call list. You can register as many phone numbers as you want, it will take 30 days for it to kick in, but after that, telemarketers (unless it's for a company you use, or charities) are not allowed to call you. If they do, they face a fine of something like $10,000 per offense. I've been signed up with them since 2004, and the registry is good for 5 years, unless you cancel your phone service then reinstate it, in which you'll have to reregister your number. All of the information is on the website. https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx

reverse phone number search compiles hundreds of millions of phone book records to help locate the owner's name, location, time zone, email and other public information.

Use a reverse phone lookup to:
Get the identity of an unknown caller.
Identify an area code.
Recall the name of a person whose number you wrote down.
Identify an unfamiliar phone number that shows up on your bill.

You can also sign up on-line at www.donotcallregistry.com, and list the phone numbers you do not want called. You have to do this every 5 years. It takes about 30 days to go into effect. If you ask them not to call you again, and they do, turn them into the Attorney Generals Office, and they will get fined. Also notify the Better Business Bureau,
