Processing is not included in the auction price.

Generally cows go for between $800 and $1500 each, depending on the breed, size, etc. In the 4-H auctions I've seen the cows bring a higher price than the regular auctions.

You may also want to consider putting the cow onto a feed lot to feed it on corn for the last 30 days before it is slaughtered. It will make it taste better.

I would be really careful when buying meat cows at livestock auctions. Some ppl take their animals there just because they are sick and want to get rid of them before they lose any more money. So if u do buy a meat cow at an auction make sure u know what to look for in a healthy animal before making a purchase.
Most of the time after u buy the cow u r responsible for the rest of the processing, unless u have made other arrangements.
the price for meat cows is anywhere from 2-4 dollars a pound and then at auctions they can go even higher, or maybe lower depending on the appearance of the animal.

Sort of. I put in a silent bid and won, and I split it with a neighbor. We didn't have to be there or actually take the cow. It was shipped off to the locker and we had to tell the locker what cuts we wanted. (Loins, burger, filets, T-bone, that kind of thing) Then the locker called each of us and said pick it up and pay for it. It can be pretty much hands off if you want it.

Alligator gar ground up and seasoned makes great burgers. So does ground up venison, turkey, chicken, and pork It seems the buffalo burgers are no longer in operation anywhere. Several places down south sold them like hamburgers at Burger King at one time.

Wow, that is really interesting. I should check with our local 4H and see if they do the same because with four boys two of whom are teenagers that would be fabulous.

Think about the girl who asked that when you're chowing down. Those animals were practically a pet to some poor kid who had to raise them for school.

PS: Boca burgers are $1.97 a box at wal mart and cholesterol free.
