Once in a while I will get this really sharp pain in one of my feet. It just comes out of nowhere & it is really painful. It feels like a nerve pain. Within seconds it goes away but if I have it once it usually comes back on the same day. Sometimes I can go months without having 1. When it comes it is really painful. Has anyone else had this pain? What causes it & how can it be prevented?

i've had something like that. i learned it was the type of shoes i was wearing. flats. they have no arch causing very sharp pains. i used to wear them almost everyday. then somedays i'd wake up in the morning with such sharp pains on my foot. after this. i wore converse and rarely wore my flats. the pain was gone. so maybe its the type of shoes you wear.

Where is it? I get them periodically in my sole. I soon realized that it was a tendon being pulled while I was walking. Since you dont specify where on your foot it is, perhaps see a doctor? But dont rule out muscles/tendons being pulled while you're walking.
