We are looking for places outside of the city that have less bustle and hustle and she specified GRASS (as in a backyard). Keeping in mind that we are fresg college grads and arent working with jay z money. We're ready to pick out bird feeders, can you help?

You can live in New York City and have a backyard with grass, just not in Manhattan without Jay Z money. Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island all have detached houses with back yards if you want to rent or buy one. Even some apartment buildings in these boroughs have yards and playgrounds and even pools once in a while. Generally these tend to be a little further away from Manhattan and have longer commute times but are still in the city. The upshot of this is that they aren't so far out and they have lower property taxes than in Westchester or Nassau counties. Several neighborhoods like this feel like small communities rather than being in Manhattan and are much like suburbs every where. Open your mind a little more to really enjoy what New York City has to offer and is all about.

Well you're not getting a house out here with a backyard fresh outta college unless you do have Jay-Z money.....Honestly! The area that might work for you would be Westchester but that's pricey......Try the Bronx....it's a good mix of GRASS and Concrete. Queens and Brooklyn too.....but I think you're going to have to be in an apartment for awhile before your financially stable enough to buy a home in NYC (Studio apartments out here start at $350,000)

You need to come up here and visit and work on making COMPROMISES. without mad money, you can probably get a place in queens/brooklyn/jersey/westchester with a SHARED backyard. but only you can say if the bustle quotient is low enough, the commute is short enough, etc., to make this work.

Specifically, Cambria Heights Queens 204th to 232nd street and 116th Avenue to 120th Avenue. LOTS OF HOUSES for sale there and lots of rentals.

Specifically, Park Slope Brooklyn (alittle more expensive but for a young couple you will never leave) 7th avenue area between flatbush and say president street. (Ok Im drawing a square for a contained area next) Anything between atlantic and St. Johns and Flatbush Ave and Underhill, within that box..

Very nice places...places available..
