Most places use Sprite/Slice/7-up and grenadine syrup and garnish it with a cherry or a cherry with and orange slice. If it's served to a girl it's a Shirley Temple if it's served to a boy it's called a Roy Rogers.

7up and grenadine with a cherry in the glass served over Ice. That is the classic if you use Coke and grenadine with a cherry over Ice you get a Roy Rogers. Cheers!

the two Chasen's eating place in Beverly Hills, California and The Royal Hawaiian hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii declare to hold the respect of inventing the kiddie cocktail named after newborn megastar Shirley Temple in the 1930's, yet so a approaches as i understand no person in France has made that declare. Shirley herself had not something to do with it, she does not even like them!
