Being celibate was not really a requirement, being detached from worldly ideas and concepts is, and initially most monks both male and female found it easier to be single than married to be able to keep detached. So the practice of marriage has never been a question, as much as how easy will it be for the individual to be able to find the way.
Practice teaches to cast off things that may stumble or hinder you from reaching or attaining enlightenment. The responsibilities of marriage can make many stumble but can also make just as many succeed.

Zen and Buddhist Monks are not the ones who take the vow of celibacy. Only the Catholics do, (how's that workin' out for ya?). As a point of interest, The Buddhist are the ones who practice Tantra. This is a form of sex worship and sex magick, depending on your path. There are no rules governing marriage, as far as forbidding it, except in the Catholic church.
I personally don't see how ANYONE can refuse such a beautiful gift that God gave us, and then pervert it in such a way.

Got your priests mixed up. I never heard of a vow of celibacy requirement in paganism. Catholics do that and sorry It doesn't seem to work looking at what has been going on for two thousand years.
God doesn't say you shouldn't engage in hot sex just that you choose one wife to do it with. That doesn't stop you from having the spirit or ability to preach the gospel.

If they didn't have sex, then we would be hearing about how the Monks sexually abused the children in Buddhist countries! Sex is a natural part of life, you get married to have sex safely with one person. I think that certain sects do get married.

wow I see people are confusing catholic priests and zen priests a bit. I am not sure of the answer, but I do know there is more to a marriage than sex. Even if it is the best part.

1 Timothy 4:1-3 " However, the inspired utterance says definitely that in later periods of time some will fall away from the faith paying attention to misleading inspired utterances and teachings of demons, by the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, marked in their consciences as with a branding iron; FORBIDDING TO MARRY....."...............the scripture tell it all......................God didn't say dont' get married................demons did that...and men who speak lies!

???? Why worry?
God does not require a follower, teacher, or preacher to not marry.
