I think he's better at pure blues than Clapton, Page, Beck, or Hendrix.

I like Buddy Guy a lot but I prefer the four you mentioned. Buddy Guy probably is better at "pure blues" because thats all he plays. Clapton plays rock, blues, and a little country. Beck plays rock, blues, and jazz fusion.
Actually my favorite blues guitarists are Mike Bloomfield, Roy Buchanan, & Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Buddy Guy influenced Jimi Hendrix. For me its hard to say that one artist is better than another unless there is an obvious difference in level of skill. Buddy Guy is great, but so are Page, Beck, Clapton, etc. Its more a matter of what you like, not who is better. Clearly, you like Buddy Guy's music - so do I - but I like the other guys too. I'm a blues-rock guitar player, so I like the heavier blues, but if Buddy Guy asked me to do almost anything I would do it in a heartbeat!

I love Buddy Guy. I've seen him live 4 times now and he's been a great entertainer each time. Clapton has often referred to Buddy as the greatest living blues guitarist. Also, he has done a pretty good job of keeping the Chicago blues scene happening since Muddy Waters died in the 80's.

I would agree with your statement, and I am a fan. I would say that I'd probably rather listen to Hendrix on most occasions but he was more of a hybrid of styles while Buddy is pretty much pure electric blues.

I had the good fortune of seeing Buddy a couple of months ago (with my 7 year old son) and he can still tear up the place. Incredible energy, especially considering his age.

Well..... Clapton is a great fan and friend of buddy and he was highly influenced by him . Another one is Jimmy. Did you know that Jimmy Hendrix used to go to his gigs and record him?
He copied a lotttt of tricks and movements from Buddy. I actually got a video with Jimmy at the first row watching and recording him while buddy went WILDDDDD that night.
He copied a lot from Buddy but anyways Buddy Guy built and lived his life in chicago by Muddy's hand and always brought the best of chicago all around the world. He's great for me.

F*ck yeah! Buddy Guy was the real deal when it came blues man. Have you seen his clips like from Festival Express when he toured with The Dead? Good Stuff. When he performs live he pours is heart out so much you might say he influenced soul music. Although all 4 of the artist you stated can best him in other aspects, as far as blues goes he's got these 4 beat (and that's saying alot, cuz Zeppelin and Hendrix play some of my favorite blues songs). He's up there with B.B. and Muddy for sure.

That's unfair to throw in Hendrix! Buddy Guy is a great blues man that definitely inspires people. I seen him 98 at Memphis in May Fest. But Hendrix! sure Hendrix was not traditional, but he was PURE Hendrix!!!

I love blues. But I prefer B.B. King, Robert Johnson, Johnny Lee Hooker and Eric Clapton over Buddy Guy any day.

Buddy is the man, but I don't think you can group anyone in there with him. When it comes to the blues it's not about being better than another artist it's about getting your message across and Buddy Guy get his across in a great way.

You cant be a blues fan and not like buddy guy...all the gutarists you mentions learned the craft in a big way from him(among others). His album "Sweet Tea" changed me for ever as a guitarists. He s probably the most consistantly good guitarist i've ever heard.
