Mmm... think about this one. The plane is in trouble, so the pilot tries his/her best to land it, yet the passengers want to leave the plane by parachute?
Who goes first? What happens to all those people when they hit the sea/land?
I'm just trying to visualise an aitliner full of people all trying to get into their parachutes and then get out of the plane.
It would be impossible.
It would also be very expensive, and there could be no guarantee you would survive and then no one would know where you were.
I'd play safe and rely on the air crew to get me down- less windy that way!

when i was on the airplane i wondered the same thing then i thought for a while and it would cost the airlines millions! plus insurane! oh holy gosh! and lawsuits! holy guacamole! there wouldnt be any airlines left...i think instead of offering parachute, i thought to myself for a better solution that somehow the.....airplane breaks into like 3parts, and each part has its own huge parachute! and when it flies overseas, it also breaks into 3parts but not with a parachute, but with a blow up kinda donut on the sides that way itll float on the sea if it crashes in the water.

Because if you offered a parachute to every commercial flight, you would also have to offer each person a personal oxygen tank and training on how to jump out of an aircraft.

How will they all get out of the doors when the plane is in flight and the ride is rough and they have only seconds to do it?
Can't you just see a few panicked people trying to open escape doors when there is no real emergency?
Will they all have to sit in ejection seats that will be blown out of the plane when the pilot hits his ejection button?
WOW! I can't think of a WORSE idea when I start to think about the details!
Please reconsider.

Have you ever tried to get about 100 people to be calm and quiet during a crash? Try getting them all out the door? Besides, the altitude would not be healthy, and then, who is thinking of running to the door, opening it, getting everyone to CALM DOWN, and jumping at the correct altitude?
Its a great thought, I always thought it would be nice to have something like that too, until I flew and thought, well, I'd never make it to the door. Besides, they wouldnt want to encourage the fear, as in, "here, take this, you never know"
