Is 12 weeks old a good age or should it be younger?

As long as the baby is properly weaned, twelve weeks is a good age to get a Pyrhurra Conure, Green Cheek or otherwise. Be advised, however, that Green Cheeks go through a very, very nippy stage between weaning (about 8-9 weeks) and sometimes 6 months of age. I find my handfed Green Cheeks are most nippy between 10 and 16 weeks of age. You can gently teach them to not nip (I am doing this now with the two I just recently weaned), and your time will be well-rewarded with a funny, active, sweet and spunky bird.

One thing, do not let the baby intimidate you with the biting and do not overreact (yell, etc). He make like the noise you make and bite for more!

Great luck with your baby. They make wonderful pets. I love mine.

Yes, they are a mutation of the green cheek conure. They have pale heads and bright red and yellow bellies.

I would go younger. I got my green cheeked conure when she was 2 months and a few days. she is now 2 months and a week. she is adorable. and has already learned to make a kissy noise. Younger is better becuz it will be able to bond to you better and cuddle with you!

:D

12 weeks is just about 'perfect' IF the bird has been 'hand tamed and raised.' If it was 'parent trained' I'd wait until it was 16 weeks or older and had at least a little 'hand training' ... unless you 'know birds really well' and can do the first 'hand training' yourself.

Thats fine, but I prefer 8 weeks (the youngest most breeders sell).

I got mine as soon as he was weaned and eating on his own, I was afraid I woud not feed him correctly.
