to don't have to repent every single sin, but if you confess that your a sinner and that you are truly sorry for the sins that you've committed than your okay, but the real question is how much have you sinned that you can't remember all of it? I think that's a problem in itself.

We Catholics believe that there is deadly sin(1John 5:16) and that Jesus gave the Apostles and their successors(bishops and presbyters) the authority to forgive sins in the Person of Christ(John 21:22-23). If I willingly refuse to turn over my serious sins then I am not trusting in Jesus.

Venial sins don't break my friendship with Christ but serious ones do;so, I have to confess those mortal sins.. Lesser or venial sins are not necessary to confess but one should. If I forget a sin the sin is still under the Blood of Christ and is forgiven. The repentance is more important than the vocal listing of sins, which is very helpful in deepening repentance and humility in relying on Christ.

Short answer, no.

Long answer, they believe in dividing sins between mortal and venial (as the Bible says, "there is sin that does not lead to death").

Venial sins are most.

There is a list of sins that are considered grave matters. If a Catholic commits a sin on that list with full knowledge of the consequences and full consent, then he or she is supposed to confess to a priest.

Most of the sins on the list of grave matters are things no one does, but a few of them (like missing Mass or using contraception) are pretty common.

In sacramental confession (with the priest), we only have to vocalize our major sins. Of course, to get into Heaven, we have to be sorry for all our sins. God does not expect us to have perfect memories, but just to do our reasonable best.
