Question #6 Ref The Bible Answer Book
taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. Ephesians 6:16
This is not an uncertain promise. Rather, it is divine assurance that faith equips us to escape the very extremities of evil. But what is faith?
The bible says faith is: the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1
Faith is the assurance that God's promises will never fail, even if sometimes we do not experience their fulfillment in our mortal existence. Hebrews 11 is talking about the fact that we trust God to fulfill promises for the future based on what He has already fulfilled in the past. Our faith is not blind, but based squarely on God's proven faithfulness.
Do not confuse faith with knowledge. Alot of people hear the gospel message and have the knowledge that can save them. This does not always mean they will act on it with faith.

You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! James 2:19
We have to act on our belief. If you do not repent and turn to God alone to save you what good is knowing that will save you with out acting in faith. We are suppose to repent and surrender to God in faith not just believe He is who He is.

Fella ,you got it right. and faith is love. and knowing that GOd alone knows what is best for us and being glad to obey Him and have the desires of His heart and make them our desires. We trust God to fullfille His promises and we also trust that God will get us thru anything, if we stay in Jesus, by love and obedience to all God says.
you are correct, faith is not about knowledge, tho one may be a knowledgable person. THere are simply ppl with little understanding that still have major faith, and they too will be saved.
IF we dont live by faith, speak by faith, love by Faith and do all things by faith, we dont really have faith.
God knows the heart.

Gen 26:5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.
Hbr 11:8 ¶ By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
Hbr 11:9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as [in] a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
Hbr 11:10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker [is] Yahweh.
Hbr 11:17 ¶ By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten [son],
Notice how his faith was accompanied by his works.
Jam 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
Here is the pay off....
Revelation 22:14 Blessed are those who keep His Laws, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
Jam 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Aw... I was going to say Hebrew 11:1 Faith is the substance of things hoped (confidently expectated) for, the evidence of things not yet seen....
It is the ingreadients for a cake... you put together a mix, it doesn't look like a cake it doesn't have the texture of a cake but under great heat, a beautiful cake is cooked... meh it sounded good at the time.

Faith is not a force around us; faith is not forcing ourselves to believe something we are unsure of; faith is not the absence of doubt; faith is not blind, thoughtless loyalty and serving a God we do not know. Faith is based on reason, truth and a God we can know personally. If you look at the great men of faith in the Bible, you see that faith comes from God alone. Faith is not man-dependent. Some believe that we have to ‘muster’ up enough faith to accomplish a great work; however, in reality it is God that measures faith to man as He reveals His plan to those who humble themselves and submit to the will of God.

I believe the Biblical definition is the same as the one you just stated- thanks for the reminder- and for those who may not think this is a question but a comment- so be it- everyone voices an opinion. You are right to say our faith is not blind- many many times God has proven Himself to me and my family. There is a huge difference between knowing about God, and knowing God.

Dear need a new,
I know this may sound strange but the answer is Jesus. Before you do anyhting, go to Hebrews chapter 11 (called "The Happ of Faith"), and everywhere you see the word "FAITH" put in Christ and see what you get...
You can also go to the Book of Romans and do the same.
