I'm going to the Busch race next weekend at Gateway International Speedway (actually in Illinois), but it made me wonder why there is no Cup race there. I've been to Indy there, I know they have the truck series there, they obviously also have Busch (because I'm going next weekend), I think they also have NHRA, so why no cup??

For one, there's not enough parking for enough fans to make it worth their while to put in the amount of seats it would require to break even if they DID have a cup race. Plus that......who in their right mind would want to sit on the frontstretch and stare at a landfill??? Yes, I said landfill. there's a landfill across the road from Gateway....directly across from the frontstretch, right next to the truckstop.

I went there for the inaugural Motorola 300 Indy car race back in the late 90's, right after the oval was built (the same year CART split). I had some pretty good seats, and really enjoyed the race. It's a pretty nice facility. I got there about 7 am, and the race didn't start till noon. There was plenty to do before the race started.

BTW......IF you are headed East on 55/70 after leaving the track....get in the LEFT lane.....I found out the hard way that the Eastbound exit onto 55/70 does not go off to the right, it goes to the left. Let's just say it got mighty DARK.......and it was only 4:30pm!!!!!!

I would love to know that too! I'm going to Busch race also and I would love to make it a long weekend with BOTH races going on like most other races! I'm going to Brickyard the next weekend and they have both races. It just doesnt seem right!

there is a few places where the Busch race and Nextel doesn't Gateway is one of them also so is Nashville ..Kentucky and a new one this year in Iowa..if they raced at every venue they would be racing year round...because there is other tracks that they dont race anymore, and they are trying to get them back like the Rock and afew others...it would be nice if they did..and i wonderhow many Wallace's would be racing there...come to Joliet this weekend!!!(Chicagoland)

Because of the limited amount of parking and no room for expansion.

I have sent you an article from 2004 that should answer all you need to know.

to many tracks as it is. NASCAR should drop half the new tracks and get it back where it all started not where it is going to end.
