i do try and question what is put in front of me.
i believe people have a spiritual side to them, but i also believe that god is this spiritual nature gone to the extreme.

don't you think that christianity are just old fashioned ideas that need to be revised, and brought into the 21st century.

it just seems taht some people are still holding on to an ancient myth, when really there are more important things in the world to deal with, like global warming? bigotry, conflict, etc.

DZE - your absolutely wrong, the truth as you know it now is probably completely different to the original biblical truth, except that its still out of date as an idea or philosphy.

How long did it take for us to realize the Earth wasn't the center of universe? I think it's going to be awhile before people come to deal with the issues of today.

No, I don't 'agree with' you at all. In fact, I think that most of the 'problems' with Christianity are because of all of the 'science and technology' we have now ... if we could 'go back to the basics of the early years' in our 'worship' and 'prayer' we'd all be much nicer, friendlier, and more helpful to one another. Yes, I am 'concerned about' global warming, and my husband and I don't own a car, we take the bus ... turn out the lights except one small one when it's dark out, etc. I don't 'waste paper' because I use my computer to get 'news, e-mail, information, etc.' ... our carbon footprint is 1/4 of most two person couples ... I am not nor do I support 'bigotry' ... I do 'support the war in Iraq' but I know that we actually got it all 'started' when we 'supported Saddam Hussein' when the Shiites 'took over' in Iran and we didn't want that happening in Iraq ... my 'support' is for the TROOPS not the 'government' ...
Yes, a lot of science is 'theoretical' ... and so is a lot of 'religion' ... I am a Catholic, but I am 'converted' after a 'long and winding road' through Methodism, Unity, Vedantism, Vietnamese Buddhism (learned from a Vietnamese monk who was imprisoned by Diem), Episcopalianism ... and there are 'parts' of each of those in 'my religious beliefs' today.
So ... although I am the 'exact opposite' of you in 'belief' I think that your statement that 'old fashioned ideas' (those of the 17-20th centuries, mostly) do need to be 'revised' and 'brought into the 21st century. GO TECHNOLOGY ... and also GO GOD!

Please don't be offended, but ***hugs*** to you.
Thank you! Thank you!

I really appreciate your question, and YES, some of my ideas are old-fashioned and spiritual.
The one thing I will never admit is old-fashioned and needs revising is the idea of treating other people the way I want to be treated.

If everyone lived by that, then the problems bigotry, and conflict would be ended. Do you agree?

As for global warming, well, I am sorry, but I can't help there.

The problem with christianity is that most devout christians take the bible very literaly. That's how it was written, therefore, it must be exactly as it is said. But if one truly understands the bible, they don't take it literally. The story of creation for instance, says that god made the world in 7 days. Well i guess this means that dinosaurs are against the christian faith? because no where does it say that they existed. If the bible is taken less literally, one realizes that god is not bound by the concepts of time, and that he didn't create the world in 7 days. This could account for evolution. God did not literally make adam and eve, but he divinely inspired the first organism, with the plan that they would one day, evolve into his image.

THE LORD GOD said It is finished . I AM THE ALFA AND THE OMEGA. This means that the Bible is the Book from the beginnning to the unending world called Omega. Thus, the Bible is never outdated even into infinity and eternity of time. Additionally, THE LORD GOD revealed HIMSELF to the Prophets and the Saints-the servants of GOD. And these are not myths but spiritual truths. The global warming, conflict, etc are only the beginning of the demonization of the whole world until the time of the end. That is why there is an incoming wrath of GOD. This truth is revealed in Rev 18:2 saying Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great (global City); she has become a home of demons and a visitation of evil spirits. I do like the way you think...sort of...
Yes, Christianity does include alot of old fashioned ideas...such as "do unto others as you would have them to unto you". If you think about it, when people treat others they way they want to be treated, there goes bigotry, and conflict...all gone! Obviously, you would not want to be treated like dirt because of your race or your gender, would you? You certainly would not want anyone to set off a bomb at your house, would you? If you treat others the way you want to be treated, obviously you won't be a bigot, and you won't be getting into conflicts.
As far as global warming, there again...if we had any respect for our planet, we wouldn't be polluting it, would we? Now, follow this reasoning...if I love my father, I won't trash his garden, because I know how much he loves it...does that make sense? Now, if I have respect for the Creator, I won't trash the planet He gave me to live on. Global warming...not a problem if we adhered to the old fashioned notions of Christianity.
I like your ideas about human beings having a spiritual side, but I think you might have missed the idea that perhaps that side is there because a Creator Spirit (i.e. God) built it in.
Just a thought, anyhow....

"don't you think that christianity are just old fashioned ideas that need to be revised, and brought into the 21st century." - No I think raising your children well has nothing to do with any book at all, good kids have good parents, and most Atheists have good parents, which is why they have good kids.

Morals and Ethics can be taught by parents nowadays, and most questions children might ask about stuff can be answered with science, therefore religion is no longer necessary.

I will begin my answer with a question- What part of Christianity needs to be revised". Sin is still sin, in 2007-and Jesus is still Lord- we need a Savior just as much as those 2000 years ago needed one- Maybe if the whole world, believed that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, and whosoever believes on Him would not perish but have everlasting life" - and allowed the Lord to save and to work in our lives- maybe bigotry and conflict would lessen. What is more important than God?
