Does he really think he has the right to speak for all of Christianity? I'm a Christian and he definitely doesn't speak for me!
I heard that he recently stated that all non-catholic Christian churches are false, flawed, and are not true churches.

Who does he think he is, and why should anyone listen to him?
I think he is the one who is not a true Christian!

To Meg M.
The reason I'm ticked off is because he is misleading people and also because his remarks make life a little more difficult for people whose families consist of both catholics and protestants. Among other reasons.

To patrone07-
It was Constantine who first started making the Catholic church, and he did it more for political reasons than religious reasons. By that time any supposed line of apostolic succession had been pretty much diluted.
We are to be led by the Holy Spirit and the Holy Bible, not by a mere mortal man!

As a former Catholic (I'm now a very happy convert to Hinduism) I have to say that it's all this "in house" bickering that led me away from Christianity (well that and the belief there was only one time, one person in the whole history of life God chose to send to His people). From a conceptual point of view, the Catholic church *is* the church of Jesus and does represent the religion of Christianity in its original concept (though I do recognize and accept Coptic church as having the same validity). All these other branches of Christianity stemmed out of Catholicism. So.....as the origin of the Christian religion, the Pope DOES have the right to speak for all Christianity!!

My, my why so upset? The Pope is just being true to his church doctrine. People get upset over churches that claim that all others are false, but the bible itself says there is only one church therefore only one doctrine.

Ephesians 4:4,5,6 read this and tell me how many one is.

Even Jesus himself said many would do things in his name that is thinking they are Christians but in the day of judgment he will say depart from me you evil doers.

Jesus himself said that very few will make it.

I am not catholic but I am not offended by his words because it has never been a secret that the Catholic church has always believed they are the one true church.

I commend people for understanding the bible enough to know that there is only one truth.

Get over it believe the way you want and let him believe the way he wants.

Besides some believe the catholic church is the apostate church prophesied in the bible and that the Pope is that man of sin Paul warned about. Paul said that man of sin would claim to speak for God and even be God and Catholics tell me the Pope is God on earth.

If one is to believe in a true objective Truth, then someone has to have the authority to proclaim it. This is what the catholic church believes. They (the catholic church) are the messengers of a Truth which they did not create, but must deliver. All christians and most sensible people believe there is an objective truth. How can we be mad at people for proclaiming a truth they believe is objective? That is what the pope is doing.

Here is the full text of the new document that states nothing new: http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20070629_responsa-quaestiones_en.html

Most Christian denominations believe that each of them is the fullest version of the Church of Christ.

While the Catholic Church also believes that she is "the highest exemplar" of the mystery that is the Church of Christ, she does not claim that non-Catholic Churches are not truly Christian. The Catholic Church teaches:

Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements.

Christ's Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church.

All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him.

Alignment with Scriptural teaching, not apostolic succession, is the determining factor of the trueness of a church. What is mentioned in Scripture is the idea that the Word of God was to be the guide that the church was to follow (Acts 20:32). It is Scripture that was to be the infallible measuring stick for teaching and practice (2 Timothy 3:16-17). It is the Scriptures that teachings are to be compared with (Acts 17:10-12). Apostolic authority was passed on through the writings of the apostles, not through apostolic succession.

He is a foolish man who thinks he is God. That's one reason I am glad I'm not a Catholic. The catholic church has always discriminated against true Christians.

Auh... He catholic and speaks for the catholic populates not Christianity as a whole. Do your research you may find something on Martin Luther.

So if your not Catholic don't worry about it as you shouldn't be listening to him any ways as you guys already had your Protestant rebellion. Why would you even bother?

Just for your infomation, the Holy Father (the Pope) is the successor of Peter, the Vicar of Christ on Earth. He speaks for the whole world, He is not a pathetic misguided old man. You need to have repect! You may not be Catholic, but 1 in every 6 people are!
God Bless You- Father, Son and Holy Spirit

The document actually reiterates that "these separated churches and Communities, though we believe they suffer from defects, are deprived neither of significance nor importance in the mystery of salvation. In fact the Spirit of Christ has not refrained from using them as instruments of salvation, whose value derives from that fullness of grace and of truth which has been entrusted to the Catholic Church."
