Interested in knowing what it feels like right as they are putting you out. Is it a scary blacking out feeling, or fading away feeling?

It fells like falling asleep........really fast. Usually they have you start counting backwards from 100. I think I made it to 94.

You know, this is interesting. I have been under a few times and I find that it feels sublime. I rather like it. I think that it helps when the anesthesiologist does the count for you. And as soon as you know it you gently go under. It reminded me of being a little girl again and drinking a warm glass of milk the night before the first day of school. It's somehow comforting. But it helps if you don't have any fear. That helps tremendously. =)

With modern techniques, you just fade out.

There is a bit of irony to your question. The word "anesthesia" derives from the Greek meaning "without feeling."
