Because it's not true.
After Orthodox (more ultra-Orthodox now) women get married, they are to cover their hair. They can do this by wearing a hat, a snood, whatever they want. Some women will shave their heads and wear a wig, but by no means is it required. In fact, that's frowned upon because to some interpretations, it seems to violate the law because then the wig is treated as their real hair. It is a better fulfillment of the law to simply wear a hat. Why? It tells the world she is married and also it makes her life at home all the more precious by allowing only her family to see her hair. It is something only for them.
