are you a citizen or permanent resident? If you're a citizen, no problem you can go to any province. You have to change your license plates, driver's license, health card (remember there's 3 month waiting period before it starts to kick in if you're moving to another province). If you're a landed immigrant under the provincial nominee program, that's different. You have to ask Quebec gov't when you can move.

There are no special administrative requirements.

Once you have chosen the new address, your first call should be to your insurance company or agent..

Sort our your insurance needs, THEN call a mover.

This is because you may find that your current insurer does not write coverage for Quebec residents and they may even not cover your belongings if they should be lost/damaged during the move into Quebec.

Do not go with generalizations: ask about your specific policy and be sure.

You may have to pay for Quebec insurance coverage, or pay a premium to the mover to provide it.

If you have a car or truck you may have to have it checked in Quebec to pass the provincial tests before they will issue a Quebec licence for the vehicle.

You must also ask your current insurer about coverage in Quebec. As for other things, they may not provide coverage for your vehicles registered in Quebec.

They will probably, but not necessarily, extend existing coverage until you switch to a new insurer.
ASK about this.

Canadian passports remain Canadian passports Nothing changes.

Your driving licence should be a simple transfer...hand in the Ontario licence and and exchange it for a Quebec one. Of course, you will have to pay the fees....

Taxes are different in Quebec, both Federal and Provincial. If you are employed by a company, they will take care of those details. If you are self-employed, ask about the specifics from a tax professional.

VERY IMPORTANT

Do you have school-age children? If so, then it is imperative that, B E F O R E you make a final decision on the address to which you will move, you MUST personally visit the schools in that area and ask as many questions as possible about how your children will be taught, and in what language they will be taught.
