Where's a good place to find the right group for you? Many of the people in my church seem very shallow and close minded. For instance, I bring up questions and they don't have very intelligent answers. I don't want to be mean but it's how I feel. I experienced this off and on growing up getting all excited about reading the bible then to be disappointed because the answers I would get to my questions were not even answers! I knew a guy who was pretty profound and he was thorough and very personal about it. I hope to find a group that can be exciting to go to.

Please don't try recruiting me either. That's not cool. I want to know the approach to take like maybe finding some classifieds and maybe contacting the leader. What's a customary way of going about it?

Just like finding a doctor that you trust....you keep searching until you find the Bible group that provides what you're looking for.

I got fed up with organized religion so I went to University and took courses in the bible. The New and Old Testament. I was lucky to have an unbiased teacher and I learned more in a semester than I ever did in Church. The classes are also good as they dont critisize if you ask a risque question and they tend to have most of the answers you are looking for.

Hey Pearl, First as a Christian the word that we should be reminded of is: grace. I assume that the purpose of your gatherings is to encourage one another in the Lord. While i don't see anything particularly racist about his comments- depending on the tone and regularity i can see how things can be perceived as being racist. Perhaps this gentlemen does not know much about English culture. The best thing to do-- instead of asking for opinions from people who do not know this man- is to ask this gentlemen himself. If he is a Christian he should be able to receive your thoughts with concern and even apologize if he has been wrong. But let me also remind you that you have a responsibility as a Christian to do this in a loving manner. If he's a Christian and he's being a racist- that's wrong- and you're trying to help him to be right before Christ- because racism is not something that Christ approves of. It's obvious you are bothered by him, so i think you should ressolve it with him quickly so that bitterness does not sprout. i just did a Bible study last week teaching on bitterness and in Acts and Colossians it is described as a "poison" (it's like having poison in your body that spreads) and kills you without you knowing... Colossians says it defiles you... so i'd guard my heart and lips on this one. Hope that helps. Kindly, Nickster

Start your own Bible group. Talk with your friends and get a group together. They can even be from other faiths. Materials are easily purchased through religious publishers or religious bookstores. That way you and your friends can explore and discuss the subjects that you think are relevant to you. Just keep the Bible at the center of your discussions.

Why not open up your mind a bit. Read some Bertrand Russell instead of any "holy" books. And if anyone promotes "the" Bible ask him why it is any more special than the dozens of other Bibles considered sacred by human beings. Face the reality that the only reason people think one Bible is special is that they are ignorant of the others and form their prejudices just on the basis of geography, such as being born in Kansas.

Why don't you start your own group. invite a few members over to your house for a bible talk. You sound like you have a lot to bring to the table and I'm sure god will give you the right words to say to others when you need them. I would start my own, I'm sure there are many in your church that share your feelings about being close minded. Seek them out and go from there. God Bless

Look in your newspaper's religion section on a Sat. or Sun. Lots of times they publish church listings. See when a church or ecumenical group is having a Bible study and go check it out.

BT,
I would suggest finding another group of Non-Denominational Christians in your area. I suggest Non-Denominational because the Group that I associate with do NOT use the ideas of man but only the BIBLE as a guide. There are a number of different groups that can be found nationwide. I would be glad to assist if you let me know where you are from. A possible site(s) is/are:

I am a Christadelphian and I find my ecclesia very interesting. Perhaps you might want to search on the internet for a group close to you.

i'm not trying to be mean but it sounds to me like you got a PRIDE issue... you need to ask God to do a work in you and show you where you have been wrong, critical or judgmental...It's a good that you are trying to get connected and go to a Bible study and you should pray about it, because nobody on yahoo answers can help you like God can...
Be blessed
