Bob's Big Boy is a restaurant chain. It's most notable for the cherubic "big boy" logo that's on its towering Bob's signs out front and for creating the first double decker hamburger -- pretty much identical to a Big Mac.

The sauce, like a Big Mac, is basically thousand island dressing.

2 tablespoons sweet relish
2 tablespoons ketchup

Bob's(up North until Elias Brother's bought them out) and Shoney's (down South) Big Boys.
BIG BOY SAUCE
This Sandwich Sauce for a Big Boy Hamburger was Created from a Gyro Sauce Recipe.

STEP 1: FIRST MAKE THE GYRO SAUCE
2 tablespoon whole milk
½ cup small curd cottage cheese, juice drained
(do not use a low-fat or fat free cottage cheese)
3/4 cup plain yogurt (do not use low-fat or fat free yogurt)
1-1/2 tablespoon minced cucumber, pat with paper towels to soak up any juice
Pinch of white pepper
1/8 teaspoon celery salt
1 teaspoon white sugar
½ teaspoon crushed dried mint leaves, stems removed
1/8 teaspoon of garlic powder

METHOD;
Using a Blender; blend everything on highest speed for about 4 minutes, pour into a container then refrigerate 24 hours before using.

Makes about 2 cups of Gyro Sauce

STEP 2:
Remove gyro sauce from refrigerator and mix 4 tablespoon of this sauce with 2 tablespoon dill relish (juice drained,) and 2 tablespoon of Real Mayonnaise which will be enough for 5-6 Big Boy Sandwiches.

Any remaining Gyro Sauce (Step 1) is delicious on gyros, pita sandwiches, dolmades, roast lamb, roast pork or beef, fish or seafood, rice dishes, grilled vegetables, vegetable filled egg omelets and many other foods.

I've actually eaten at 'Bob's Big Boy' restaurants in Southern California ... and the 'best' you can do is buy a bottle of the 'sauce' they use on their burgers ... they actually SELL IT at the 'counter' when you pay your bill! Then, you can just use that and buy more when it runs out, or you can read the 'ingredients' and buy them and 'mix them' up ...it could take some 'experimentation' but eventually you'll have a 'recipe' you can use when you want to make it yourself.

yeah, it's popular here in Michigan. comparable to a Denny's. I grew up in Arkansas and we had Shoney's. Big Boy and Shoney's were owned by the same company.

The food is ok. They have a nice breakfast bar on the weekends.
