I mean does this "all sins are equal" thing seem ridiculous to anyone else?

Well, it does put liars at a disadvantage, doesn't it?

However, what is the greater mercy: Forgiving a lie, or forgiving a murderer?

THAT is why the idea of all sins being "equal" is a merciful concept.

As for your question, if one has already repented, then no, they're not going to hell. However, if they lied, and then refused to repent...well...I don't know. I have no idea how God would judge in that situation.

What I DO know is that once a person asks for forgiveness, they're forgiven for ALL sins, past present and future. However, they're supposed to "Go and sin no more."

There is one BIG difference people are forgetting: HUMANS are the ones measuring sin (eg: some people consider murder worse than stealing or lying) but God doesn't measure sin. Sin is sin. Wrong is wrong.
However, He is all-forgiving even if you rape, murder or tell a lie. All you have to do is repent (be sorry, confess to Him and turn away from your sin [give your will to God and try to resist your evil flesh]).

It appears that many people don't know the freedom that comes with receiving God, Jesus & the Holy Spirit. Doing that means that your sins are forgiven... but also that you follow him and his teaching. If you die before you can repent of all of your sins (which will definitely happen), God will accept you based on the decision you made to accept him, not on whether or not your slate is clean at time of death.

Hallelujah, ok?

Peace out.

ps. Shahin - you are measuring sin based on a HUMAN level. Why can't people get it through their heads that the severity of sin is all based on our human subjectiveness. That's not how God judges us.

Just so the Catholics on this forum won't argue, in Protestant churches sins are considered equal. The Catholic Church does distinguish between venial and mortal sins.

I think if you forget to repent for something in particular, it's ok. Like the first person said, when you pray for forgiveness it's for all of your sins. However, it does seem strange to me that a white lie is as bad as murder in the eyes of God.

Are the consequences of one sin, greater than the consequences of another, Yes, of course. Steal a cookie and maybe get off with a warning, rob a Bank and go to jail. Both were sin. Sin is just that, sin. Just like a quarter is money and a dollar is money, they are both money. God forgives sin. It is a foolish man who does not ask for forgiveness of sin. The price for all sin was paid for on the cross. Forgiveness is yours for the asking.

No absolutely not. All sins are not equal , some sins are major sins like murder, adultry and rape, robbing someone etc, others sins like lies are minor sins. Sins that are committed against God will be forgiven if you repent but sins that are committed against other people will not be forgiven untill the victim forgives you. This is what Islam teaches.

absolutley GOD is light and in him is no darkness if you work any work of darkness you can't stand in the presence of him,
just light when you turn on the light in a room you will no longer see darkness.

sin is transgression against GOD,in other words when you sin you knowingly chose the darkness over the light and GOD will respect your choice and send you where you belong.

but he died so that you don't have to,all you have to do is believe and repent and the blood of JESUS will cover your sins.

If one is a born again believer his sins are wiped clean off of God's record slate .He will chastise you for back sliding . All sins are not equal , if you murder someone your payment in hell will be greater than someone who didn't murder.

No, Christ died for all sins--past, present, and future. The Bible doesn't teach that we are only saved if we've confessed each and every individual sin. It teaches that we must come to Jesus as a sinner, and Jesus bears them all in our place.
