depending on your religion and/or beliefs, one of three places to me.
1 heaven
2 hell
3 stay on earth as spirits (alot of people don't agree on this one)
oh and purgatory if you're catholic
and you get reincarnated in some religions
some people believe you are just gone, like before you were born
it really depends on what you believe

You are a soul in a shell (body). Your soul departs your body and leaves the earth plane and you go into the spirit world. You don't sit in the ground waiting for God to raise you out of the grave!
There is no such thing as man made religion nor is there a devil or hell. You will have to judge yourself and feel every hurt you have caused somebody but also you will feel every joy you have bought to someone. There is no reincarnation, you go onto other planes in the spirit world to learn.
BTW the two girls that said Christians go to heaven and everyone else goes to hell..how nasty! You're as bad as muslim extremists.

First let us exam if a soul really exist.
Scientists weighed people who were dying and discovered that despite their size, their body weight at the time of death dropped approx. 2.5 grams each. When you consider the power expanded at that moment via e=mc^2, it is huge and significant. So from a science standpoint, their is evidence that a soul truly does exist.
Next we have countless testimonies of people in near death experiences all with similar experiences and from locations and in languages that makes it impossible for them to all know each others experience-a fact worth noting.
We can deduct that the soul exist, and does leave the body at death.
Religion attempts to answer the afterlife. The honest truth is nobody knows, until it is their time to arrive.
I personally hope the Christian plan is true.
And in summary as a wise wizard in Harry Potter once said:
"Death is but the next great adventure."

From what I know, when the body dies, the soul is to be judged. They will open two books. The first one is where good people are listed . If you're on the list, you're in the heaven. The second one lists all the good deeds you've done.

According to Christian thought, the soul is eternal and persists after the earthly body is dead. Where it goes is a matter of how you lived on Earth. Heaven if you were good. Hell if you were bad.
And as I Catholic I believe in purgatory as well.

At one time we beleived the Law Conservation of Energey
Then we learned the Conservation of Mass+Energy
May be in the future we will learn
Sumof Mass+Energy+Soul = Constant

I believe that YOU are your own soul. It's not a floating spirit that goes on around after you die. When you die, your soul dies.
