After all, noone seems to want the poor, tired and restless in this country except as scapegoats and cheap labor....
Perhaps we should just tear down the Statue of liberty and erect a huge sign that says "AMERICANS ONLY, ALL OTHERS GO TO HELL". It seems as though we might as well...

Ray- I'm not out-and-out pro-illegal, but if they have to wait several years and go through rolls and rolls of red tape I can certainly at least understand why they choose the illegal route. If we make it easier to enter this country legally then most likely we can solve, or at least get closer to solving, the problem.

The Statue of Liberty does not invite criminals to come to this country. Illegal=criminal. There were a lot of criminals transported here into servitude by the English courts, true, but consider this also. The strongest and most adventurous came over along with the transshipped criminals and so on that came here. The ones who wanted a better, freer life. The ones who wanted religious freedom. The ones who were ingenious and inventive. The ones who were brave and ready to face a hostile wilderness and change it into the best, freest country in the world.
I think a lot of us are resting on our laurels now, but there are still plenty of us willing to work hard and try to continue that tradition. I personally have worked in fields, worked as a maid, worked in a potato shed, cut grapes, picked beans and strawberries and many other things, and I'm sure there are still people in the younger generation willing to do the same as I did.
One thing that did make us so strong is the diversity, the "melting pot" society. Of course we're all immigrants. Every country in the world with the exception of Africa, where humanity first formed has immigrated from somewhere, and people laid claim to the land as their own. That is what has happened here, and the land is now ours to rule as we see fit and to pass laws we want. The same thing happened in Europe, Great Britain, Mexico and every other country in the world. Just because we are all the descendants of immingrants doesn't mean we don't have the right to create our own laws and culture. Even Native Americans immigrated here across the land bridge that used to exist between Alaska and Siberia. When the Native Americans were defeated, they lost the right to rule the country as they saw fit. To the victor goes the spoils and the right to rule.
I'm completely and totally in favor of legal immigration, because diversity and people wanting a better life is what made us strong. In my opinion, however, illegal immigrants have no rights here. If their baby is born here, it should not be a naturalized citizen. If they need emergency medical aid, give it to them then send them back home. Don't give them foods stamps and welfare. Fine their employers, or jail them. Make it too expensive for the employer to hire them.
Illegals, GO HOME!

Dead Marxist .....The ones that need reminding of the book of law in that statue are us. Yes the ones that hire illegeals the companies and the people that hire them. The illegals know they are braking the law but not to what extent. We on the other hand know better. If we didn't hire them they would not come illegally in the first place.

It is not part of the Statue of Liberty; it was donated in the 1920's by a philanthropist. It has nothing to do with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Let me guess - another person educated in the government schools?

I do not share the same opinons as many others who spoke out before me.
In order for our economy to progress, we must have more consumption.
Illegeals consume and contribute to the economic welfare of the nation. They always have, and they always will.
Ask yourself. How much of an economic impact would there be, if we, overnight, removed ALL illegeals from california?
The layoff of american people would start almost instantly. The first place to see reduced sales would be grocery stores, gas stations, walmarts, and such... Those would be the first place REAL AMERICANS WOULD LOOSE THEIR JOBS!!!
For every person who enters a market, it is estimated that 2.5 jobs are created.

http://www.upjohninst.org/michiganappendices.pdf
The same is true in reverse... For every job lost, there are 2.5 people who loose their jobs because of jobs related to consumption and spending of the individual.
So, let us deport the MILLIONS of Illegeals... Fine.. But be prepared for MASSIVE LAYOFFS of LEGAL AMERICANS who loose their jobs because of the lack of consumption.

Idiots, what you are hearing is American descendants of legal immigrants telling illegal criminals to go the hell home and come back legally.
We still accept the tired and poor, we just demand that they respect us not try to change us.
If they love their culture and homeland so much then they can stay there rather than trying to take over our country.
Edit: 3D: not a bad idea, be careful of the thought police with that though.

We accept more immigrants of all social and economic background then the rest of the world.
HELLO!?!
We want people to immigrate here legally and follow the laws, like the ones from decades past at Ellis Island, right next to the Statue of Liberty.
IS THAT SO HARD FOR YOU AND YOUR PRO-ILLEGAL KIND TO UNDERSTAND!!!!!?????!!!!!!

You might do well to take note that in the left hand of Lady Liberty is a Tablet of Law.
This reminds immigrants that we are a nation of laws, and if they are to participate in our democracy, they must follow the laws.
Including immigration laws, of course

Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
Nowhere does it say anything about even if you break our laws of entry. As for cheap labor, write your congressman to end the senseless demeaning of our laborforce.
