It's possible to eat any bird, but the domesticated ones we commonly eat have been bred to have more meat on them, making it more cost-effective.

Wild scavenger birds like crows and seagulls would have worse-tasting flesh than domesticated birds raise on grain.

There are a lot more birds that we can legally eat. Trouble is that there are not many places now that sell them. In some supermarkets you can buy quail, and guinea fowl which are delicious. Pigeon is like steak when cooked, but can be very tough. Apart from those I think you would be in trouble with the law, as most if not all british birds are protected.

Birds are like mammals in that they consume many various issues watching the species. purely like a tiger might consume a rabbit, so birds of prey, like hawks, falcons and owls will consume smaller birds, yet they at the instant are not the only birds that try this. Jays, Crows, Grackles, Meadowlarks, Shrikes and a selection of of alternative different species of birds will attack and kill smaller birds, ingesting them. that's amazingly easy in nesting season, while birds % greater protein. some falcons in the united states was called names that indicated birds that they ate. The Kestrel became called the Sparrow Hawk, the Merlin became Pigeon Hawk and the Peregrine became Duck Hawk. In England they nonetheless have a chicken called the Sparrow Hawk, yet its a real hawk, not a falcon.

Yes Yes Yes, there are lots of birds we can eat, some with very distinct flavours that can be brought about by hanging the birds or even burying them! ps wood pigeons are delicious and they are not protected. I have been to some highclass restaurants who serve wood pigeon as a special -usually with venison as the dark meats compliment each other very well.

no way...this totally makes perfect sense. i was wondering the same thing. honestly, we probably just eat the birds that are easier to raise/easier to catch. chickens are rather easy to raise and reproduce quickly. and turkeys, well...come thanksgiving they're all nice and fat. Seagulls...their beaks might be too big and not worth the catch, and crows are too small. i'm not sure if down in antartica they eat penguins...might be something to look into. there's plenty of them to go around.

The flesh of gulls is very salty and not pleasant.
Song birds are eaten in other Countries, we just don't do it in England anymore because most of them are protected species. Even with birds which are classified as "pests" like the wood pigeon; if you shot one in your own back garden you would be committing an Offence.

We have ostrich meat but it is incredibly expensive.
There are all sorts of reason we don't eat the other birds, but the main one is quality control and certification.
Game birds can be found from time to time, but generally you need to know someone who shoots.

Crows don't taste that good. There's a reason why they call that old expression "eating crow."

The ones we do eat probably have more meat on them, or taste better. If you were starving in the wilderness, they would all taste good.
