Being part Japanese, I use soy sauce in lots of my cooking. There are many great nutritional things in it such as: very low in Saturated Fat and Cholesterol, good source of Riboflavin, Vitamin B6, Magnesium and Copper, Protein, Niacin, Iron, Phosphorus and Manganese.
Now the bad is really only one in my book and that is that it is high in sodium. I usually buy the LOW Sodium version for using on my foods.
Now for calories, it typically has 11 calories per tablespoon. If you are on a diet, I would try to use something else for flavor like fresh lemon juice and pepper since soy sauce will cause you to retain water due to the sodium intake. Every time I go to Japan, I bloat out from all the sodium in the food, but I also drink lots of water because I do notice I get so thirsty! LOL.
It isn't unhealthy for you, but it does have lots of sodium. Whenever I diet, sodium is the first thing to cut out for me... Hope this answers your question and good luck!

Soy sauce is low in calories (about 10 per tablespoon) but high in salt.

For a change I'm going to be educational
Per 23ml serving
Energy 77kl/18k cal
protien 0.7g
carbohydrate 3.8g of which sugars 3.4g
fat 0.1g of which saturates (trace)
fibre(trace)
sodium 1.66g
Now I'll put the bottle back.

It is VERY high in sodium. Use the 'less sodium' version (in the green bottle)...you won't miss it!
