Yes unless the state has some law saying you can't be garnished there like Florida where OJ hides from his creditors.

Hard to say. A garnishment is essentially a court order authorizing involuntary deductions from your pay to apply to a debt. The order is *against* the debtor, but the order requires action from the debtor's employer, not the debtor - so the employer is the one who is required to comply (on behalf of the debtor, if that all makes sense....).

Whether or not someone from, say, Iowa, is compelled to comply with an order issued from a court in - oh, let's say, Georgia, for instance - depends on the jurisdiction of the court that issued the order. Was it federal, state, district or municipal court? And, some states/municipalities have "agreements" between them to honor judicial orders issued from one another; others do not. To further complicate matters, granishments for some types of debt, such as for back taxes or child support arrearages, are honored in some states/localities where garnishments for ordinary consumer debts would not be.

Sorry I could not be of more help...you probably should contact a lawyer in either the state where the wages were earned, or the location the garnishment was issued, to get an answer applicable to your specific situation.

Good luck!

It will depend on your current residence state laws, and whether they allow wage garnishments. What you want to do is search the net for "foreign judgments" and your state, and look at your laws to see how they are handled.
