Yes, you also see that it is not true that if evil were removed, there could be no good ! That silly duality is from ancient Jewish-Persian-Mithraic (false) dualism.
On the highest Paradise levels, evil does not actually exist; it is a partial reality down here in space-time for awhile, probably under one trillion years in this Supreme learning age for us.
On the highest Heaven, the infinite-sized Home of God the Father and Son and Spirit, there is Absolutely all Good, no evil; all Beauty, no ugliness; all Truth, no error. Truth, Beauty and Goodness are Supreme Values. Love and mercy are even higher Absolute Realities in the perfect Eternal nature of God our Universal Father-Son-Spirit.
The reason there is both good and evil down here is partly due to imperfect mankind or imperfect junior or "lesser" celestials having full God-given freewill (volition) to make individual choices.
God and Jesus have said to us,
"Be you perfect, even as I AM perfect."
This loving invitation-command implies that we start out imperfect. Thus, starting out here on earth (the lowest "kindergarten" heaven) we will make many errors, do some evil, maybe even worse -- sins --or the worst -- iniquity.
Remember well that Jesus is Powerful to save and transform each son of God who so really desires this loving and merciful salvation and eternal rehabilitation.
The is no literal "hell"; the final penalty for (later) a human sent up for final judgment in a higher Heaven, and who then absolutely refuses Jesus' merciful salvation, is extinction of personality...poof ...gone. This is the "final death" correctly mentioned in the very incomplete, garbled by humans, Book of Revelation in the Bible.
If any here want more on good and evil (very complex Revealed Theology, cosmology and philosophy, hundreds of pages available to peruse for many years) email me and I will send you some of it.
There are three levels of Reality: Perfect Infinite-Absolute Paradise (no evil) and Perfected Havona one billion spheres just lower than Paradise, an Ultimate-Absolute level (no evil) and then our (lowest level) supremely perfecting space-time universes with some necessary evil among imperfect freewill human sons of God. Thus these three levels of Reality are Perfect, Perfected and Perfecting. Reality is both elliptic and symmetrical.

First of all...
If there is a Heaven (I said IF) then it would simply be one end of the spectrum and that's where it ends.
Hell would be the complete opposite.
More likely though, is the notion that Evil is simply a state of mind, or the perception of immorality in society as a whole. An example of this is Murder. Most people would consider murder to be Evil, but sometimes it is necessary. (War, Capital Punishment, Euthanasia, etc.)
There are degrees of Evil that would be agreed upon as cruel and inhumane by almost eveyone such as sexual assault and torture, however, most other humanly acts are usually debatable.
Secondly...
To answer your question directly, Good and Evil EXIST...period.
Not as some invisible "force" or whatever, but rather in the minds and actions of Human Beings.
And though I believe it is possible to have one without the other, I am sure that it will never actually be realized.
The Human Race is far too selfish and ignorant for that to ever happen.
The only thing we can do now is keep imprisoning and executing all those who are considered to be Evil, and applauding those who aren't.
Oh yeah...and argue about which religion is accurate.

Well I think it all goes back to the theory of relativity. How can you know what is good if you have nothing to compare it to. Evil is a relative term. If you lived in a good society, you'd probably find someone to call evil due to variation in a person's definition of it.
I like the golden rule.

Good and evil need to coexist because they are the same thing seen from two different points of view.

There is good and evil.
a proof is if you kill someone there is a penalty, and unless you are a total sociopath, you will feel bad.
Many things like choosing Pepsi over coke has no right and wrong.
Like many issues, you have to decide a lot by yourself.

There can be good without evil, but evil, being a perversion of good, requires the existence of good.
I don't believe in an afterlife.

If there was only good in this world, then our purpose to fight for the right things in life would have no purpose. Fighting evil to get close to God is the purpose of our lives. With no evil, we would live way too easy and things, life, and people would have no challenege.

I'm Atheist but even I can answer that.
Because if there's no evil, then you wouldn't know what "good" is because everything would be good. Having evil allows you to recognize "good" and "evil" for what they are.

there can't be good without evil, because then what would be our basis for comparison? Every extreme has to have an opposite extreme
