The boy ran around the back of our tent into our campsite? Our dog is 1 year old and neutered. How can I stop him before he is forced to be put down if he does it again or to the wrong person who will demand it.

keep him on a shorter leash and near you at all times when there are little ones or strangers around,
get him in to obediance classes
get a muzzle if you are planning to let him on a longer leash or free reign when out and about... they make soft but strudy fabric ones.
keep his med records with you to show he is current on shots/rabies in case the spca or police are called

i'm sure he was just protecting you and your camp area but you can't have him just nibbling everyone lol

Keep the dog on a shorter leash. Just keep a closer eye on him when around people. You can try obedience training. Though I'm not sure if that would solve the problem. Sounds like the fast scrambling of the child is what set your dog off. Maybe work on that. They are a tense breed.

American Eskimo dogs don't necessarily like small children we've had one for 8 years shes just fine around adults(except men) she doesn't like them either shes fixed so its not that, she was raised up with children but get snippy with them sometimes doesn't do well witrh strangers at all,its just the breed I think. She is aways confined or leashed except at night she gets the whole house. No amount of training has changed this dog one iota, just have to love her lol!!

Oh I love eskimo dogs they are so fluffy and have curly tails, you keep him on a leash. When I go camping in my tent I get a stick and dig it in the ground and tie the leash to it

I don't know what you should do about the dog but I do know that you'd better thank God it wasn't my child that he bit. If it was, you wouldn't be asking for advice on what to do about the dog. I'd have already taken care of that minor detail for you.

Seriously though, it sounds to me like the little boy should have been on a leash instead of the dog.

Send the dog to obedience school. The dog would not have bit the kid if you had control of it.

If charges are set against you. The schooling will show that you have control over your dog. It's good for the dog, and you will learn something as well out of it.

If you can't train your dog not to bite people then you need to find a proffesional trainer to do it for you.
The only other option is to keep your dog locked up in your backyard, or somewhere elce where people cannot come in contact with the dog.

The dog was doing his JOB.
Do we put cops down for arresting people?

You are HIS human, if he perceives a threat he WILL handle it.

That kid was violating your space, the dog knew this and did his JOB.

a small human with a stick or ill intent, looks the same as an adult human with ill intent.

If he will bite flesh and you can't trust him in camping situations and such == then muzzle him. They may take the person down but they can't claim *BITE* = and have your camera ready ***just in case*** ...

Many people will claim a scratch from a toenail is a bite- especially kids who are crying.

I would keep him on your property while you try to socialize him. Take him to the dog park but keep him on a leash.
