In indiana the new law............. Allowing 18-21 year old me to date our little girls and theparents cant stop it .

Other than keeping young 18 to 21 year olds off the sex offender list the new law helps to protect young males in a dating relationship with females between the ages of 14 to 15.

But this law is specific to dating relationships.

"As long as it's consensual, as long as the female is over the age 14 it will mean they will not be prosecuted."

How can they make 14 age of conscent. No 14 year old little girl should be dating a 18-21 yr old MAN

I sat my 15 yr old son down, read the newlaw to him and explained why a 14 year old girl cant make these choices.

I always know where my children are but I just feel law makers are trying to make the parents job harder but giving them permisson.

The second part of the law reads as follows...............Public Law 216 may keep some off the violent offender list, but it requires murder, voluntary manslaughter or those charged with possession of child pornography to register on the state's sex and violent offender list.

So when the father kills the 21 yr old for screwing his daughter he has to register on the sex offenders list !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe the age of consent is 18, which means that the people in
Indiana have made a state decision, which doesn't make sense to me. Well the parents may not be able to legally stop them, but the parents can maybe deter some of these young girls from dating older guys. I think all the hush hush and taboo about sex should be thrown out the window. I think parents need to sit their kids down from an early age and tell them the facts of life. That there are pedophiles and perverts out there. That there are conniving men out there who are out literally hunting them and ready to pounce on them like prey. Parents need to do their jobs as parents and educate their children about the real world, instead of just sending them out there to experience it on their own. Parents who think they are protecting children by not telling them about sex, and its consequences are actually setting there kids up for failure (to have unwanted babies, to catch STDs, they are ok-ing and further continuing the cycle of babies having babies). If parents equipped their children with the relevant facts, then the children would at least have an oppurtunity to make an informed choice before making some of the decisions they make. I know some kids are just rebellious and determined to do anything they can to spite their parents but there are alot who made poor choices because they simply did not know any better. Someone has to be able to do something, we are the people and gov't is suppose to listen to us and work in our favor. It will have to take alot of angry parents to get this reversed, that or a considerable amount of teenage pregnancies or crimes against young girls. Whoever ok'd this law must not have any young girls at home, or in there family. This is really sad. At 14 what do you know about dating or being with a man? A man, who mind you is more experienced and seasoned, in life. He can only be after her for one thing and that is not to benefit her and make her life better. This is a sad piece of legislation and a waste of paper and ink. All the best.

Honestly, I'm torn about this.

I don't like the idea of young girls dating older guys.

However.....

My sister and my brother-in-law dated from the time she was a freshmen in high school (13), and they're married now. She was nearer to 14 than 13, and he had just turned 15 but was only one grade ahead of her.

They were sexually active from early on.

I don't like that fact. However, there would have been about a 13 month period where them having sex would have fallen on him criminally, had anyone chosen to pursue it. I don't think that's right. The guy was in love, faithful, in a monogomous relationship, and they dated for years afterwards, and have been happily married for five years now.

I personally don't see that as "criminal".

I mean, the 18-21 window in your situation requires that they not be just an insane amount older, so you aren't getting 29 year olds having "consentual" sex with jr high girls.

Yeah, I wish things were different, but I don't think the statutory rape laws in place are really all that fair.

As parents, if you have a huge issue with girls having sex with older guys, set rules and boundaries, and talk to them about self-worth and the dangers and complications of sex in teenagers, but I dont' think a guy deserves to be arrested because his girlfriend is two months shy of "legal".

while I personally feel that no 14 should be dating period...it is not fair to a guy if it is consensual to get busted for it! 18 and 14 is only a 4 yr gap my husband and I are 3 1/2 yrs apart, but since I am 23 and he is almost 27 its ok! So if it IS consensual why would you want them prosecuted...if you dont want your 14 yr old w/ a man then dont let her date b/c even a 14 yr old guy can try and get into her pants!

Oh my god! That is just crazy. A 14 year old can't make decisions on her own like that, I understand older guys can make a girl think that he is what she wants. That is really crazy. I don't know how they would do that.
