How did you reach the conclusion that God affects things in this world? I still don't understand how people came up with the idea that God is omniscient, omnipotent, etc. It does not say anywhere in the bible that he is. This must be pure speculation, or "deductions" that were made from observing nature. Because nature is so complex, its creator must be the most intelligent and capable being in existence, right? (false logic). Somehow, that logic must have led to the idea that God can do amazing things like count the hairs on your head, read your mind, etc. Because he can create billions of stars, he can surely read my mind, right? Then somehow this new deduction I just mentioned leads people to believe that God affects them in real life events. For example, one may say "Oh, God knew I was going to villify my friend, therefore he made me lose 20 dollars as a punishment."

As a result, people end up making invalid deduction based on another and another, and somehow end up with an illogical philosophy. What do you have to say to this?

See, it is people like Sue I question. I don't understand where she got to all these pathetic conclusions. My question was aimed at showing how these illogical beliefs come about!

Do you have about 4 hours?
You are right, you will not find the words "omniscient or omnipotent" in the Bible.
However, you do find statements that reveal an "ever present" and "all powerful" God.
"I know your thoughts afar off", "if you ascend to heaven, behold, I am there...If you descend to Hell, behold, I am there"
"Before you were conceived, I knew you..."
If you believe in God and believe the Bible, how else could you interpret these incredible statements?
Your question is bigger than some of the examples you gave. I do not necessarily think God punishes in the way you state in your example. I think a lot of people are confused about how God works. Even God says that "Your thoughts are not my thoughts, neither are your ways, my ways".
I think you ask an incredibly thoughtful question, and it deserves a much better answer than I am able to give here. I hope I have given you a couple things to think about.

Anyone who believes in a particular religion as the "one true religion" is actually incredibly egotistical.
Think about it.
Let's say that I claim to know the absolute truth about why we exist on Earth and what happens when we die. If that's true, the only way I could have gotten that information was through divine intervention (God thought I was so special that he provided *me* with the truth).
And, every religion known to man claims to be the one true religion that will lead us from our mortal life on earth to an afterlife in heaven (or paradise, or whatever). Which makes any religious person insanely egotistical - or just insane.
That's why I choose to be agnostic. I don't believe that there is no god - that would be atheism. Rather, I believe that there is absolutely no evidence to support any one religion - or the lack of existence of a god - over any other religious belief. I would like to believe that I will have conscious existence after mortal life on Earth. I just haven't seen any evidence in my life to support the notion that this will occur.

Apes are infinitely smarter than airborne dirt and airborne dirt and dust, Sarah. Having an IQ of purely a hundred and forty four I usually experience dwarfed via the great intellects of Fireball and Liberal Asskicker. besides the undeniable fact that, it truly would not take many functioning neurons to fireplace off to make your mind up that christianity and all different religions are in simple terms sophistry. It would not take a intense IQ to understand epistemology, besides the undeniable fact that it does take a good training. An information of epistemology will lead any rational individual to end that perception in god must be suspended until such time as there is easily evidence of god's existence to evaluate. Bianca's graph leads me to suspect that the inverse correlation between IQ and religiosity is a surrogate endpoint. the easily causative aspects can be got here upon to be societal with good training being the foremost factor.

God fails every test when it comes to proving his/her existence.
Every single one.
Therefore, the ONLY way to maintain a belief in said god is to continually shift your definition of what that god is. Every time one definition of god is disproven, you shift it to one that hasn't been disproven.
And when one definition directly contradicts another, that is when the theist throws up his hands and says "god is everything and can do everything and we can't understand him, and .... blah blah blah"
That is where the all powerful god comes from. If you can change what your god is, depending on the circumstance, you can always find some sort of ridiculous excuse not to admit he doesn't exist.
Atheists stare at people who do this in wide-eyed wonder. But at least, as theists run themselves in circles this way, it is further proof that their god cannot exist... and further proof that if one did exist, the theists are the LAST ones who know anything about him. :)

Why do you care what people believe in to get through the day....
Is your life so empty yu must fill it with judgments of others
whether God is real or not ...it is something for people to believe in..which is critical....not everyone can break the chains of their upbringing..
something is out there let them call it god

OK sparky, first off, the concept of question and answer is that you ask, someone else answers.
Second, the bible clearly states that their deity is omniscient, it also says he is merciful, just before he drowns everyone but one drunk and his sons.
Third, it doesn't affect me, I am not of any of the Abrahamic faiths. I just don't like opening a "question" just to find a sermon.

why ask questions about a God you do not believe in! He is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end! one thing God does tell us is that darkness cannot speak to to light and light cannot speak to darkness. therefore, an athiest will never be able to comprehend God and a theist will never be able to comprehend the delusion that we just sprung out of cosmic goo! we will never see eye to eye and both sides believe that the other is completely off their rocker. get over it and enjoy your life because your "afterlife" is going to suck. get off of yahoo!answers and enjoy your soul while you still can...as for me, i have eternity!!!
