Game type: $2/$4 NL
Your image: TAG
Opponent’s image: The button is fairly TAG and the SB has been a bit of a wild card.
Your hand: 2♦2♣
The setup: Preflop everyone folds to the button who makes a standard raise to $15. The SB calls and you call on the BB with 2♦2♣. You hit bottom set on the flop:
K♠6♣2♥
The SB checks and you decide to check. The button bets $25 and now the SB check raises to $75. The button has been playing a standard TAG game for shorthanded, making plenty of raises and continuation bets. The SB has been a strange mix of wild and quiet, but you haven’t seen them do anything that seems particularly stupid.
Should you raise or call??
Another thing is.. should you have bet the flop giving you a much wider range of hands that your oppenets thinks you have instead of checking it??

i think just calling is the best play for a number of reasons:
1. based on the board and your image of the SB, one of his likely holdings is 6-6 for a higher set...not that you should live in fear of that, he could easily have a king, but it's something to take into account
2. there are no legitimate drawing possibilities on this flop...it's a rainbow flop and the only straight draw is pretty innocuous, so if you have the best hand you've probably got them both buried, and obviously you're buried if you're against a higher set
3. if the SB, the button, or both, have a king in their hand, they will have an easy fold to your raise and you won't get any action on the hand
raising just appears counterproductive in this situation altogether, you won't get action from a worse hand for the most part here...meanwhile by just calling you might portray that you have just a king, but there is also the chance that by just calling you will give away your hand, which is the only downfall i see
also, to answer the second question, i much prefer checking to leading out, because you take the play away from the button in this hand...he will probably make a continuation bet on a flop like this, because it will be very hard for someone to call without a big hand, and by betting you will take that play away and force both him and the SB to have something, while by checking you can get the button to put money in while drawing dead

The pre flop call here is ok, i will call off up to 4 big bets with pairs like this in the hope that i can snap a set off here and break a player for all there chips. It is hard to read sets sometimes especially when it is a hand like a set of deuces. But the check is ok also, the flop has come out very dry here, the only hand you are very scared of here is a pair of sixes in the hole, and if the other guy flopped a better set then you then it is just bad luck, and you are going to lose a big pot here, it is 500-1 that both of you will flop sets here. but sometimes you will make more money by just betting right out as well, but like i said you got what you wanted since the other players are betting big here, but it is a lot of action so be careful here. You think of K-Q, K-6, or 6-6. The pot here is getting pretty big so you either give him the credit for the bigger set, or you make a move on the pot yourself and if the other guys go all-in you are going to have to call. You are committed to the pot once you call the 75 dollars here, so if you are going to dump the hand on the flop is the time to do so. But if it was me i make a big re-raise and either they fold or they may push all-in, and i am forced to call the bet. So if he has the 6-6's in the hole here it is just bad luck, but the fact they could both have top pair or even top two is what you want.

first before my answer, i would have bet a pot size bet post flop with the low set.
i would fire two barrels and if i'm not taking the pot on the second barrel then something is wrong... either getting outplayed, someone is chasing or i really don't have the nuts.
betting post flop when you hit a set is a really good way to disguise it while getting value too.
answer for your situation:
reraise.
SB can be put on a narrow range of hands ( AK, 66, K6, K2, any 2 spades) with such a large re-raise. a re-pop is in order to see what SB wants to do. considering he check raised post flop and hasn't been a complete draw donkey then he probably has 6 6 or 2 pair. if he has 66 then you are probably going broke unless you can get away from the hand. i doubt he had kings (or aces) because he just called the initial standard pf raise of about 3.5x BB. i think he has AK (tptk), two pair or 6 6. for your sake i hope he just flat called AK pf hoping to hit and he got top pair top kicker. otherwise i fear he might have been set mining and got the 6 he needed.

I think you did the right thing in checking post flop. The SB probably got lucky and picked up two pair K&6. He may also be going for a flush draw. If he is going for a flush draw he is betting very high trying to scare you out. My bet is on that he pulled two pair. You can call and slow play your set but you are taking a chance that he might hit his boat or catch his flush. If the turn or river is a king or six his boat will be bigger than yours. I would raise him and try to scare him off.

In this situation I would raise to $150. You have 3 of a kind. The only hand that can beat you right now would be 3 kings or 3 sixes. The sb is probably trying to bluff. If you throw out a high bid, only the good hands are likely to stay in.

Make a large raise so if someone has a pair or two pair they might fold. Try to win the hand now and not let them draw.
