we always make the simple, old ground beef with tomato paste, black pepper and some herbs. I want to try making new spaghetti sauce that still uses tomato paste. But not too wild things. Something simple yet more interesting than we always make. Any suggestions?

I add a little vodka (gives a different spicy flavor and alcohol cooks out) or black olives...yummmm!!! Use tomato sauce also, it will take away some of the tomato flavor and let the other flavors come through.

Instead of using tomato paste in mine, I like to use crushed or pureed tomatoes.

I saute a chopped white onion in some olive oil until translucent. Then I add a few cloves of crushed or chopped garlic, a healthy amount of dried Italian season, some sea salt, fresh cracked pepper, a pinch of red pepper flakes and a bit of sugar, about a teaspoon, to cut the bitterness in the tomatoes. Then add a can of crushed tomatoes and simmer over low heat. I like to saute my turkey/beef in a separate pan and add it to the sauce with a slotted spoon to minimize the amount of grease in the sauce.

Add small amount of red pepper flakes or a little hot sauce. Maybe some fresh garlic (or galic powder) extra basil too.

Add red pepper flakes to make it a little spicy. Try using Italian sausage instead of (or in addition to) the beef.
