I got approved today by the immigration officer for green card. Due to our happiness, i forgot to asked him if we can apply for my social security eventho my card hasnt arrive yet.. He didnt stamp my passport but he approved me vocally.. Should i apply now or wait for my green card to arrive?

you can not apply without some paper that you are legally in America, wait for green card or work visa

Because you don't have proof of your approval. What you may do is go to your local SSA office with your valid employment authorization card and photo identification and apply for your ssa card. They will issue you a card that reads "valid for work with USCIS permission" of something along those lines. Once you get your actual permanent residence card you can go back to the SSA office and request one without that restriction.

That is best answered by a quick phone call to the office where you were verbally approved, but I would guess that you will have to wait for the paperwork to complete.

You can not get a SSN. You use your alien registration number for tax purposes.

You can't get a SSN yet. My sister in-law is from Japan and can't get one yet.
