Good grief no.. On some rare occassions, most often if a fighter is in need of money or looking to gain recognition, he will fight twice in a week's time but this is a rarity. Also, some fighters, if an opportunity arises to fight a big name or get television time will take a fight on "short notice". Meaning that they may only have a few days to get prepared. But no, most fighters especially the big names only fight a few times a year at the most.

No actually most of the big names fight about twice or three times a year. They do a lot of training and sparring but actual fights are usually spaced out. Journey men will sometimes fight once or twice a month and fly or drive around the country fighting in other people's hometowns but the better boxers who usually have the better records and maintain top status usually dont. One exception to this...(I'm sure there is more) is Mike Tyson. When he started out he fought 18 fights within a years time. Of course most of those were quick KO'sbut it was still very unusual. His second year he fought 11 fights one of them he won the title in. After winning the title he fought only 4 that year, then three the next. Between two and three thereafter. Back in the old days they fought a lot more frequently I think Jack Dempsey fought between 15 - 20 times in a year for two or three years but other years he fought only twice. Good question hope you get a lot of good examples from other answerers as well :o)

most of the time no, but they need to be ready too - sometimes there's a problem and a fighter will get a fight on no notice or short notice. They always need to be ready to fight.
I can think of several recent bouts where something happened and another fighter got the fight and didn't have much notice.
