Don't pretty much all religions claim to be the only true one?

I agree.

Here is the full text of the new document that states nothing new: http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20070629_responsa-quaestiones_en.html

Most Christian denominations believe that each of them is the fullest version of the Church of Christ.

While the Catholic Church also believes that she is "the highest exemplar" of the mystery that is the Church of Christ, she does not claim that non-Catholic Churches are not truly Christian. The Catholic Church teaches:

Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements.

Christ's Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church.

All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him.

With love in Christ.

Don't listen whatever Pope say. He is a simple human like we all are. Only the Holy Trinity (God) is infallible. And the "Head" of Church is Jesus Christ , not the Pope.
In East Orthodox Church, we do not have the Pope as spiritual leader. We think that he is dangerous for Christianity.
We do not have a leader of all Christians. Even the Patriarch of Constantinople , who is considered to be "Ecumenical", is "First among Equals" ! When there are issues for discussion , all Patriarchs and Archbishops of Orthodoxy make a Holy Session .

That has been my answer to all those Pope questions I have answered. Almost every religion out there claims to be the right one. The Protestants (who seem to be the ones protesting the most) are just as adamant that the Catholics are going to hell. If you didn't feel your religion was the right one (making all others wrong) why would you follow it?

Those of us who love and follow Christ give him all the glory for our salvation. He shed his blood and suffered a cruel death on a cross to pay for the sins of humanity. He said that all who believe in him shall be saved.

The Pope says that there is only salvation through the Catholic church. This is not only false, but it is trying to take the glory and the credit away from Christ. Jesus said "I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me." He did not say the way to the Father is through the Catholic Church.

I was just stricken by the sheer mean-spiritedness of it. But I know quite a few Protestants return the "favor," not to mention Muslims.

You're absolutely right... Give 'em a break.

I'm far from being a Catholic, I'm atheist, but we're all entitled to say what we think... and then we all entitled to listen to others gripe about what we think. LOL

The churches are all busy hustling in believers as fast as they can... They're gatherin' the flocks. Do you think there's a reason they're acting so anxious?

Because the others don't like being told they are going to hell.
How's that for irony

Isn't that the problem with religion...and how that cyclic inconsistency of "my god is the true god" is just dopey?

I'm not. If a former Hitler youth can be forgiven, then I am in really good shape.
