I DO know: it isn't. There are hundreds of factual errors, as well as dozens of internal contradictions.

What do you mean by "real"?
The Bible is actually very historically accurate. It's geography is accurate in a very limited way. The science is pretty poor, but so were just about every other ancient document. There's a great deal of wisdom about how to live life. And even some of the mythology teaches great truths about the human condition.
So, what are you talking about?

I say Einstein's E=MC(squared) is true.
I cannot travel the speed of light to personally experience this truth. Additionally, the "Theory of Inflation" in regards to the "Big Bang" theory tell us that matter traveled faster than the speed of light to form the Universe as we can excitingly measure it. This "theory of inflation" blows Einstein's equation out of the window ... yet, I still need to grasp Einsteins theory to grasp other scientific truth's or hypotheses.
In short in dealing with science or the Bible ... "Faith" lets me fill in the reason that I have not obtained in full so that I may seek out the truth.

Once the literal meanings are abandoned for the sake of subjective interpretation, interpreter's bias is introduced, arising from upbringing, preconceived ideas of what the text says, others' opinions, culture in general, etc.
The Bible cannot be "true" if it must be interpreted!

To say that it is not true would mean you are not a Christian; therefore, no Christian ever said it was not true.
