Fact: The bible was written by man. Anything created by man is flawed. The bible has some really great teachings. But the truth is there is no heaven, no hell, there are no virgins at the gates , there are no angels on our shoulders, THERE IS NO GOD! Churches use people, have killed people in the name of god, why would anyone want to worship a god that has condoned so much misery and death. Really, if god so loved the world that he sent his only son to die for our sins, isnt a very smart god! Churches ask for money, why does god need money, and if there was a god wouldnt he give the church all they need to worship in his name. Come on people, you worship a deity that has never shown its self. Thats just dumb!!!

How Do I Know the Bible is True?

There is one thing we must face when we consider whether the Bible can be trusted. Most people believe that there is a God. But if God is really God, then He speaks with absolute authority and we must submit to His Word. In other words, what we think about God's Word, and how we react to it, reflects what we think about God Himself. We cannot separate God and His Bible. We do not have to believe the Bible, but we will deal with the consequences. If people do not believe in the God of the Bible then they are going to act like it.. This is the most frightening evidence of all.

It is a good thing to ask if we can trust the Bible. The Bible is able to take our scrutiny and come through vindicated. James 1:6 states that we must never feel reluctant to ask God for the ability to trust in His Word and the wisdom needed to get the most out of the Bible. However, Bible study is a holy inquiry. Only if we approach the Bible humbly and with an open mind toward the truth, will we find the answers we need.

"Thy word is truth." John 17:17

Define real.

What makes a rule real?
What makes a poem real?
What makes a prayer real?

Jesus himself spoke in parables. A parable may be about real people. It may be about fictional people. Either way it contains truth. A lesson to be learned.

We know from outside sources that much of the events are true. Things that happened to real people and can be confirmed by non-Hebrew or non-Christian sources.

Is the Garden of Eden a factual event or a parable? Even if it's a parable it contains truth. That is a lesson to be learned. Knowledge to be gained.

Anyone who tells you THE bible (as if there were only one) is sadly misinformed. Not a kook. Try to be polite.

I was born again and underwent a great transformation in my inmost being at a time I least expected it and didn't even know it was possible. At that time of knew of no other person professing to have had such an experience. About a year later I read in the Bible in the Third Chapter of John about something Jesus referred to as being "born again". I realized when I read it that was what happened to me. Since then i have learned to rely upon the Bible as being the Authority on spiritual matters, and I have personally experienced many other things of which the Bible speaks.

No-one does. So you have to apply common sense and relate what is said in the bible to what we know about the world around us and use that to judge how accurate and reliable the bible stories are.

As examples:-
+ do snakes talk?
+ do people habitually die and spring back to life?
+ is it biologically possible for the entire human race to be descended from two people without so many genetic abnormalities that we would have died out after only a few generations?
+ is there any evidence that the entire world was ever submerged so that all plant life would have been wiped out and is it possible to build a wooden ship large enough to contain all living animals?

The common sense answer to these questions and many others you could raise about the bible stories is 'NO'. Therefore any sensible person would conclude that the bible is not a true account but rather a collection of colourful stories.

You will know if you really want to know. Everyone at one point has asked themselves the same thing. It doesn't matter how you were brought up. It's born in us. If you start going to church, reading the Bible and praying I PROMISE you, you will know!! Once to begin a "walk" with God everything becomes very clear. It takes a little while. There is a book called, A Purpose Driven Life - I think that's the name of it. It's very popular and should be at the library. I hope you take my advice you life will never be the same. You will be so happy and the everyday things in life will fall right into place. It is so amazing. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. I have been in your shoes.

The part with the talking animals? The parts with legends lifted from pagan religions? The parts where dead people walk? The part where people die from touching a gilded box? The part where a loving God declares women to be the property of men? The part where demons possess pigs? The part where the universe pops into existence, fully formed, in six days, with animals appearing before people? The part where the universe pops into existence in an unspecified amount of time, with people appearing before animals?

I think it should be obvious that it's mostly make-believe.

There is certainly a lot of truth in the bible. For certain values of truth.

The ideas presented in the bible, such as 'it's not a good idea to kill other people', or 'wouldn't it be great if we could all be nice to one another for a change' are very real, and true for a lot of people, regardless of the literal veracity of some dude putting a bunch of animals on a boat.

It's entirely possible for the bible to be 'real' (i.e. true), without also being factual.

How do you know the air you breath is real......could you go to another planet and breath without a heavy, clumsy space suit and oxy tank on your back. What would happen if God said, "I have had it with those unbelieveing earthlins Iam going to take away their air." He could do it in the twinkleing of an eye.
