Is it okay in a job interview to say the only reason why you took your current job was because you viewed it as a stepping stone to gain experience to help you move up in your career?

Might be better to say you are looking for a job with broader opportunities than your current one. If you talk about your current job as a stepping stone, the interviewer might wonder whether you're looking at their job the same way.

I wouldn't use the phrase "stepping stone" or give any indication that you only looked at it as a temporary job. I would say that you took the job because you felt you could gain valuable experience that would help you further your knowledge in that field. You never have to say or even imply that you intentionally took it on a temporary basis.

I wouldn't use the words "the only reason", but definatly because you wanted to gain experience and personal growth. They like to hear those things. That shows you willing to learn and are interested in taking on more responsibility.

no, it's ok to say that, but i would phrase it differently. try something like "i viewed the position as an opportunity to learn more about the field and to help me decide my future career goals". Good luck!
