This is a REALLY long story..heh...

I have a private TERI loan through AES. Apparently I am in 'repayment' status even though I have been attending school full time. I have contacted AES and they are going to see if I still qualify for forbearence. (I was off for a few months during the summer semister during 2005 and THIS is what caused this #$*%# debockle). However, a CA has been contacting me demanding a 2500 dollar payment saying my loan will go into default. What should I do? AES has my documents I faxed in regardeing deferment/forbearence. What if I still owe a little money? I am currently unemployed due to lack of child care for my son.

Contact the person you are working with at AES and tell them the problem. Hopefully, they can contact the collection agency and ask them to hold off on contacting you until they review your file. Unfortunately, unless it comes from AES (the company that hired the collection agency) the collection agency is going to continue to hound you until you pay because that's their job.

When a collector calls from that company explain your situation and tell them that someone else at their company is trying to help you out. I think you will be okay as long as you keep in contact with your loan company.

You've done what you can do. However, I'm sure you knew the rules when you took the loan. People who give loans are not doing so to give charity, they do it to make money. If you go into default you'll ruin your credit rating, so try to pay something to forestall this.
