I'm wanting to go to Australia over Christmas and New Year for about three weeks with my husband.
We would like a stop over for one or two nights in Asia somewhere.
I've had a quick look on the internet but the flights seem really expensive. Has anyone got any experience and know any good websites? Will the flights get cheaper nearer the time or will we just have to stump up about £1200 each?

I had the same problem as you, except I was going to the Philippines (Very close to Australia). Then I was introduced to this website www.travelsupermarket.com there I found a flight for under £500. However, I wasn't going around christmas and I didn't stop over anywhere. My advice to you is to use that website as it is definitely the best and if possible, extend your holiday a few weeks so you're not travelling at the most hetic time of year.

I think you will find that flights are cheaper before 6th December but are then expensive till Christmas. You may find a flight on Christmas day itself cheaper but who wants to be flying Christmas day!!!!
Check out prices now as they do get booked up fast. My friends from the UK saved over 500 pounds each by travelling before 6th December. They spent Christmas and new year in Oz and had a fabulous time.
You have the choice of mainly Bangkok or Singapore as a stop-over on route.

thts the peak season, generally Qantas set the price range as they have the monoploy. However if u want a cheap package, get to the south of Indonesia, u can then become a boat person, and they will take u to Christmas Island. Then u will be arrested by the navy, taken to the mainland and interned, at least u will be in Oz
Bestof luck and enjoy yr stay

Nope they will stay expensive - how do you think all the Aussies over here get home for xmas? Of course they bump up the costs! You could always fly on xmas day, that's usually cheaper, though.
Good luck!

Prices ALWAYS goes up on school hoildays and christmas Dec/Jan is the most expensive time to fly anywhere in the world.

Some airlines have 'happy hour' prices at lunch time if you are online then to search more on prices.

Not only is it the holiday season so prices are bumped up but it also the Aussie summer months so equally as popular. Try trail finders for cheap flights.

Tarpon Springs is the best you can use.

It has the exact features of orbitz, but you save hundreds of dollars more.
