I read your posts saying *No purpose of life* we are just here.
So does Benjamin Franklin have more of a purpose than a bum in the alley who never had a job an education is a drunk just taking up air?

If we have no purpose then we have no value?

Maybe the purpose of life is what GOD says *Serving Other's and not ourselves* Jesus taught *all* have value no one is above anyone else

But don't you think saying human beings have no purpose they are just here is the same as saying there is no value to life we are just here....

Many people live in this world are totally useless are evil yet we have value for them because they are human and alive and have a GOD given right to be on the planet, if that's the case Man could start saying who could they eliminate because some human beings have no purpose or value?

Our purpose is not to judge which of us has "more" value due to education or job or whatever stupid reason you think is important. Our purpose is to help each other - rich, poor, smart, ignorant - and make the world a better place for ALL.

What does that have to do with any god?

"drunk just taking up air" must be some christian value system.

You can't equate purpose and value. Gold is valuable because of its scarcity. It has uses as an electrical conductor, a non-reactive surface, a weight, etc., but can we really say that any of these things are its purpose? Humans have uses as workers and thinkers. They have value as unique examples of the species. But to say humans have a purpose is to limit their potential. The whole idea of "purpose" is a human concept, based on humanity's comprehension of cause-and-effect and capacity for creative thought. So any purpose we might have is self-determined.

The purpose of a screwdriver is to turn screws. (That's why manufacturers say don't use them as prybars.) The purpose of a saw is to cut wood. But these are human inventions. Is the "purpose" of a cow to provide meat and milk for humans? Is the purpose of the sun to keep us warm? What is the purpose of a weed? Or a tornado? Or Saturn? Capability, also, does not mean purpose. You can dig a ditch. Is that your purpose?

The only thing that might be construed as a purpose for humanity is continuity. The value we see in our ability to reason and remember, to build and to comfort, motivates us to continue our species, aside from the natural instinct to procreate. Sure, there are some who think about eugenics and thinning the culls. But many others are aware of how arbitrary and short-sighted human standards can be. Efficiency is a frugal idea, but it is not nature's idea. It is precisely the LACK of a limiting "purpose" that leads us to keep the options open and give every chance to those people who don't appear to be performing up to some standard. We see value without requiring "purpose".

Consider computer hackers. Is their purpose to break, spy, steal and otherwise create misery? Or is it to motivate programmers to improve their program security? Many use that reasoning as their excuse, but I think they just do it because they enjoy it. So often a "purpose" is just a disguised personal goal. Perhaps we should call them as they are.

As Ernie says. But shouldn't some of your purpose be, becoming a Value? Becoming something that people love and have respect for.Living a good life. Even if just to your family. So there it is and still no god.

To say a human's purpose does not derive from god is not to say that his life has no purpose nor is it to say that is doesn't have a natural value.

There are plenty of people who feel they have a god given purpose to destroy life (not just those we call terrorists but also those who are opposed to them). There are religions which support both sides of most conflicts. Does that mean that religions do not value life?

Absolutes are generally a bad basis for any philosophy. It is unfortunate that most religions feel they are absolutely right.

the original purpose of humans was just to be there and balance out the moon the earth and the sun. but humans werent suposed to become more inteligant but they did so there was an organ put in the body kundebuffer which is what flipped everything upside down making our brains have to flip it right side up. thosepeople have long since died but the organs purpose still is in us. and very few people are teaching the way to regain enlightenment of our brains.

This is for those who say life has no purpose and hence no value...

God created us for His subservience and we are none to claim that there is no purpose of life. Some for those who do not understand this, should dwell unto themselves and think again.
Life has a definite value and there is definite purpose for life.
This is the Eternal Truth.

The purpose of life is to make more life. But humans have the power to choose their own purpose; Carl Sagan said: "If you want your life to have significance, do something significant." Since any human can in principle enrich the lives of others, life is worth protecting for that reason alone.

Why does life have to have to have a purpose to have value?

We do have a purpose, to procreate. Like every other species on this planet.

Only human beings with their (supposedly) higher intellect are dumb enough to invent a God and life after death to make them feel better about their lives.
