All Dawkins showed with his book is how juvenile and petty he is, and how unsophisticated his argument is. The God Delusion is one logical fallacy after another, strung together in an unconvincing way. I sincerely hope that his science isn't as shoddy as his logic and philosophy.
What I'd like to know is why fabulous utopians like Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins think that humans cut loose from traditional religious morality will choose to act in any way other than to protect their own self-interest.

Sorry honey. My parents are non-believers. I find Dawkins to be irrational.
He claims science will eventually explain everything. Where as a scientific genious like Albert Einstein states that the very best scientists understand that some things just CAN'T be explained.

Yes his sardonic wit is quite engrossing, especially when he underscores just how contingent a religious belief is on geography or cultural upbringing. It’s an argument that actually is underemployed, in my estimation, by many atheistic philosophers and other secularists who wish to show how illegitimate the truth claims of religion truly are.
It should be employed much more often, and with the same eloquence as Dawkins, though I admit it is hard to match his style. Other human conventions, which we deem to be true, have been discovered independently in different parts of the world. The fundamentals of Calculus were discovered both by Newton and people in India. Astronomy, with its study of the stars, was uncovered both by Mayans and those looking through a telescope in Europe. These, and many other propositions of science and math, are independent of and transcend culture.
Religion is purely created as a byproduct of culture, and that is why you have different ideas about God, the afterlife, and morality from time to time, and in different areas of the globe. Therefore there is no merit in it, and no incentive to force people to adhere to it. To say that one must follow certain religious precepts, which are nothing more than an expression of delusions of a particular culture, is the equivalent of me saying that everyone in the world must adhere to the Chinese language, only cook Indian food, or read Greek myths.

I think its funny how he utterly fails.
Huh, i don't think the religion i was born into is the truth. I converted to Christianism recently.
But then again, i believe that that is not Dawkings most bold argument against christianity

It is a fact that the religion into which we are born is not necessarily the one God approves, however, there still exists one that God approves.
BTW Do not confuse christendom with Christianity.
Christendom is a hypocritical abomination and the worst representative Christianity ever had.

The more I read of "The God Delusion," the more I like it.
It's a good point. Obviously, a god who insists that the One True Faith is the only way to be truly happy (but who ensures that most of humanity has little chace of joining that One True Faith) is mean and more than a little discriminatory. Christianity reads like a chapter out of outdated European imperialism.

Quite remarkable, isn't it, how everyone just happened to be born into the religion they wanted?
