I think abortion is a sad but sometimes necessary thing. It should not be indulged casually, but it shouldn't be prohibited either. Conception control is a much better goal, but moral absolutism is inhuman, usually injuring the people who are already suffering, and excusing those who have the clout to escape.
Birth control has historically been taboo because human existence was precarious and procreation meant survival. Now that we have achieved a reliable food supply and are numerous enough to have an impact on climate, the topic needs rethinking. Our increasing biological understanding provides us with many options for controlling population and improving the quality of life through family planning. But it conflicts with our natural instinct to value and protect human life. We are stuck with two evaluation methods. Either we judge which human lives are more valuable, or we draw a line between human and non-human.
Drawing the line is the less disturbing method, but nature is uncooperative. The ancients did not consider a fetus to be alive or en-souled until "quickening", when evidence of movement could be detected. But it's not a biologically clear line. Cells divide and begin to specialize and form organic structures all through the process. There is no exact moment when one can say, now we have a human being.
It's simplest to roll the line back to conception. That's the point when a unique cell with complete and unique DNA is formed. But it's just a cell, then a small, undifferentiated cluster of cells, virtually undetectable, with hardly the image or capabilities of a human. What's more, some cells divide and separate, forming distinct individual beings. Does the sould divide too? Or is a new one installed, in which case, which blastocyst gets the new soul? Philosophy can sound pretty silly sometimes.
Sometimes a blastocyst fails to implant. Its passage may not even be noticed. And there are miscarriages, spontaneous abortions, usually because there is a malformation. Even a full-term child can be stillborn or have an impairment that won't permit it to live more than a few days or hours. Is God a murderer, or a eugenicist? We have an instinct to protect our species, to remember the intrinsic value of its members apart from any perceived utility they may possess. But where is the point at which we start caring? The conception line is convenient, but is it meaningful? How much easier it is to agitate for the "rights" of an invisible, insensate zygote than for the hunger of a fourth-world orphan too far away to worry about!
Personally, I feel that the burning "moral" issues of the day are not an inconvenience for the rich, powerful and connected. They will have the resources to avoid any trouble, either before or after the fact. The great burden falls on the poor, helpless and marginalized. Their lack of resources, time, money or access, is held against them. Abortion is just another social lever for the haves to control the have-nots.
People should not be ordered to have or not have children. People should also be invited to seriously consider the consequences of their actions, individually and collectively. They should be allowed meaningful choices, a sense of social ownership and responsibility, and effective support when things don't quite work out as planned. They should not be forced into impossible situations where they must choose between crime or misery. Life is not a game, with "winners" and "losers". To be human is to have basic compassion for everyone, even those we disapprove of.

I think that birth control pills, IUDs, shots, & patches have too many inherent potential dangers and damages to a person's present & future health and life in their uses, when there are other safer, healthier ways to prevent getting pregnant.
Years ago, my OBGYN ran a study on me, and his other patients who were concerned over the potential dangers of birth control & to discover when & what days I would be fertile and most susceptible to pregnancy and when I would not be fertile. Those few days each month my husband and I abstained from having sex or always used a condom and I never got pregnant until we wanted to become pregnant. And I did not endanger my health or the health of my three babies.
It was a win win situation.
And now, as a mother with grown children, I do not have the endemic health problems & diseases that my longtime female friends face and deal with who relied upon birth control pills, IUDs, shots, & patches.

People need to be licensed for anything that requires forethought or responsibiliy except for spawning. I'm for sterilization of humans until they can prove that they are up to the task of raising children.

Most forms of birth control I think are fine. I think that when you are on the pill you could end up killing an embryo.

Yes, use it. People need to stop having unprotected sex and bringing millions of unwanted babies into the world.

I have no problem with it (FOR A MARRIED COUPLE). It's not realistic for each couple to have x number of kids.
