Reading the Koran, I did find the tone uplifting emotionally. But I could see that Mohammed was a man who flew into rages when people wouldn't accept his authority, and said the most intemperate things. He also did use violence against opponents, but was usually not as brutal as the human warlords strutting around and wrecking others lives at that time (but sinful and no prophet to my mind).

Most mohameddans probably overlook the rages. People will often mistake emotional uplift for genuine religious experience. With emotions and pride soothed, people can disengage their brains. Humans are easily seduced, as Hitler's soothing messages showed us Europeans.

Its meaning is quite obvious. But this verse is from the chapter called "Al-Anfal", meaning "The spoils of war". The whole chapter talks about war and what to do when fighting.

This is one of several passages in the book inveighing violence against "infidels". All of these are used by radicals as a justification for violent activity.

Those who receive the mark of the beast will die...
