Live Earth was cute and all, but it did nothing but raise millions of dollars. Lots of people contributed lots to land fills, 250,000 air miles were traveled, countless car miles, etc. All which helped the environment I am sure. Out of all of this nobody suggested anything realistic we should be doing. Car exhaust bad? Agreed. Flying bad? ok. Recycling? Good idea. But nobody is going to stop driving, stop flying or stop even recycling tomorrow.

I'd like to see the big celebs and musicians, politicians, etc. give up there mansions, private jets, etc. and lead by example. Then maybe I will think about parking my SUV which all I do with it is drive to work, paying 3 bucks a gallon for gas, to feed my family. To get some left overs after the big corporations have taken everything. I won't make any big lifestyle changes, I can't afford to.

Tell me what I can do now that's free to reverse climate change which by every scientists own account, can not be reversed?

Give up my SUV, private jet and 12,000 square foot house for 3? Give up all my luxuries? We wouldn't want that.
So I will endorse everyone else to change while I stay the same and preach high on my pedestal.

You shouldn't conserve energy and resources because you're afraid of climate change, you should do it because it's the right thing to do. Fear is one of the most powerful motivators, but it also leads to irrational decisions...and breeds more fear. As you seem to care greatly about your family's well-being, then I would avoid all the fear-mongering.

Not much you can do about the SUV - some people aren't rich enough to get a new car whenever their needs change. But when the time comes, re-evaluate your and your family's needs and purchase according to them. But that will be the crux of my suggestions: re-evaluating needs with a consideration towards reducing negative impact on the environment. You talk about feeding your family as a need. For free, you can eliminate a good number of "convenience" foods - overly-processed, overly-packaged foods intended for rapid consumption, often of specious nutritional value (ie, "empty calories"). You can actually increase the health of your family's diet while reducing these types of foods while decreasing the money spent. How does this help the environment? Decreased material consumption, decreased energy consumption from the manufacturing process, decreased waste from unnecessary packaging, decreased shipping fuel consumption. The loss of convenience may make the habit hard to break, but in the long run the health of your family, your pocketbook, and the environment will be better.

There are many other ways to modify your consumption that won't cost you a cent, but ONLY YOU can assess those needs. Don't let other's make you feel guilty about not doing enough - there will always be someone who thinks you can do more. And don't forget to LIVE YOUR LIFE; if all you ever do are the things everybody thinks you should do, consuming only what others think you should, then you are no more than livestock in a cage, awaiting imminent death.

BTW, if you haven't gathered, I don't believe in this global warming scam.

Above all, you can conserve. That costs LESS than free.
Insulate with R-30 per inch polyimide insulation (High initial cost but economical in retrofits over the long run) Anyone can easily cut electric use in half with out any pain or sacrifice. Get a "Kill-O-Watt " meter from Harbor Freight and start hunting down "Vampire" and "Phantom" Loads that are sucking electricity 24/7 but doing no usefull work for you. Get those off-line or an cutoff switched power strips. You should of had those long ago for lightning power-downs anyway!
With the money you save on slashing your electricity consumption without pain, then;” go for the gain."
Start to add Solar Thermal to your home to eliminate the 30-35% of the electricity that heats your hot water. You can do that far more cheaply and more efficiently than with electricity that looses 70% of total energy used to make the heat at the power plant, up the stacks warming bird's feet before it ever arrives at your electric meter. Then use the money saved on your electric bill to buy solar Photovoltaic panels and begin to eliminate the rest of your electric bill.
Use all the free earth thermal resource that you can...its right under your feet. Add a few degrees F to that and watch your heating bills disappear forever. Cool with ground temp resource instead of electric AC.
Add an algae growth pond to your estate and grow 60-100 algae crops per yar. feed the green algae “Jello” to bacteria that eats algae and poops BioButanol BioGasoline and use that to run your SUVs Growing algae is dirt cheap and the Bioasoline obtained, is for use at 100% Concentration, to replace Petrol gasoline, in all unmodified gasoline engines . It will run in any petroleum gasoline engine just fine with greater specific energy delivers to the wheels than with dirty passé petroleum gasoline. BioGasoline also has zero carbon footprint, is net carbon dioxide neutral, is a fossil-free fuel, that emits zero greenhouse gas , is ultra-low pollution (since it lacks the polycyclic and aromatic hydrocarbons that contribute to smog )is fully biodegradable and is carcinogen free.
In short, you need to stop doing things "the way we have always done them...wrong."
Instead realize that the hidden costs you are already paying for not becoming personally energy independent are already costing you about 1/4-1/2 million over your lifespan.
Act now, do an in-depth energy audit, and conserve, and you will be very surprised to learns how wealthy, drastically reducing your energy purchases can make you in the future. You have needlessly been throwing away thousands to tens of thousands of dollars every year your whole life and probably never realized there are viable alternatives. Stop doing that! Put that money back working towards your own energy infrastructure. You will leave a very rich, and energy-dense, inheritance four your grandchildren to enjoy as well.

Does anyone remember how much a plasma screen cost when they debuted,...about 25000 in Hong Kong the first time I saw them. Now they're pretty cheap and now LCD instead. Patience, we engineers are working on it. Making it cheaper by finding industry standards, evolving the technology, and raising awareness. It's expensive now, and so do what you can when you can and implore those with the means to do the same by your actions and enthusiasm. I think I could convince anyone to sell their car for a used hybrid or at least buy a florescent bulb or eight for their house. How about geothermal, solar panels, wind power for a house. How about a tune up for your car, that's inexpensive but saves gas for now.
What you can When you can. Discipline. Small changes by everyone lead to an increase from the whole. We're working on it, and we don't take it lightly.
You sound like this matters to you. There is quite a bit of money out there for upstarts in the alt energy market, start a business selling nothing but green friendly items. Start a non profit that only advertises and educates people about what is already out there, most people don't know that the solutions already exist and aren't that expensive.

I think all you can do is your bit. It's not just about saving the planet, it's about caring and respecting your surroundings, which lets face it, without these we are all doomed. When I die, I want to to know I've lived my life the right way. Just because I choose not to commit a crime, this won't solve the worlds criminal problems, but I choose not to because my consience tells me it's wrong. It's the same with making choices to reduce pollution, be an aware consumer, recycle e.c.t. You do it to try and help and to show that you are taking responsibility for your actions.
If no ones 'little bit' counted, then we wopuldn't be in the mess we're in would we!!!!!!

We can't reverse GW, but we can slow it down if everyone started taking steps. I'm sick of people pointing at Al Gore and Hollywood claiming they should practice what they preach. Where people supposed to arrive on horseback to this concert; every cause needs a voice, a song, and you put down the people who are doing that.
This is what people never point out: ' More celebrities than ever arrived at the Kodak Theatre in gas-efficient hybrids. Ballots and programs were printed on recycled paper and organizers concerned themselves with choosing more environmentally responsible materials for sets and decorations.'

Leo DiCaprio no longer takes limos, but drives an electric car.

Cameron Dias not only drives a hybrid, but bought one for each of her family members. How about Sting, Bono.....how come these names are never brought up?

Daryl Hannah has built a solar home.

Okay, here's how I see it. Both sides are politicizing the issue more than they should, but what's really reprehensible is that the anti-environmentalists are using their refusal to believe in global warming as an excuse to refuse to change any of their irresponsible and planet-harming ways. Whether you believe in global warming or not should be totally irrelevant. There are other indisputable reasons why we need to reduce emissions. Here in Phoenix, and in other major metropolitan areas, we frequently have ozone advisories, warning even healthy active adults to stay inside or minimize their outdoor activities. In case you don't know, most ozone comes from car exhaust fumes, power plants and other man-made sources of nitrous oxides. Will people have to start dropping dead in the streets before you recognize that unhealthy air is a bad thing?

There are things we can do that aren't hardships. Most of the people who drive big SUVs never take them off-road and don't really need seating for eight or nine people. There are more fuel-efficient vehicles available. There are also buses, trains and other public transportation that can reduce the number of vehicles on the road. Carpooling and telecommuting are other viable options. Converting power plants from coal to nuclear or hydroelectric would be a big help too.

If the Earth's industrial infrastructure is converted to using nuclear power and renewable energy resources during the next twenty years or so, the most serious and lethal effects of global warming will not occur. What is needed is the political will to overhaul all our energy sources, over a time period consistent with full capital depreciation of all current industrial infrastructure. The most important thing you can do is to support that essential political change. Everything else (conservation efforts, lifestyle changes, etc.) is relatively less important.

I have not have been given any theory yet once you come across out, please save it to your self. I scent ya from right here! lol what's the Definition of ask your self? A fart with a lump in it! Why did the fart pass the line? If we all refuse to do anything that's inconvenient, affects our lifestyle or costs money, we truly are doomed.

A simple step would be to drive fuel-efficient vehicles. SUVs are trendy and they have their place, but for millions of Americans to be driving in them alone to work is crazy. The automakers are fighting like anything against rules to require better mileage in their vehicles. Write your representatives to tell them you want them to support this anyway. Lobby your government to invest a fraction of your tax dollars that they've already spent supporting the oil industry on renewable energy sources. Eat less beef and more vegetables. Turn down the air conditioner and in winter, the heater. You'll save money and help fight global warming. Don't have any more kids. Teach your children about environmental responsibility so they will do better than we did.
