Pope Benedict Ratzinger...... Here is my opinion.... They want to go back to the latin services as they don't want people to read scriptures or interpret them..because the priests don't want people to know the truth. Benedict is a great name for the guy as he is a trader of the true Christian faith, as he trades truth for deception. For all Catholic's that don't read scriptures, I feel sorry for u, as u can't think for yourselves and let other's dictate and interpret for u. Catholic priests are control freaks. What's your opinion?

If you're Catholic, I'd say you have a concern. If you're not Catholic, why would you care? If you have Catholic friends, ask them how they feel about it. I am not Catholic and I think it's terrible BUT I do not know the Pope and I don't know his reasoning behind his decision. Far be it for any of us to judge. So please try not to. In the end times, there will be a great "falling away" from the Word. This decision is certainly in keeping with that prediction. It's been said that the Catholic people, as a religion, don't tend to actually read and study their Bibles. Instead they are content to be spoon fed the Good News through their priests, never questioning, always trusting. This could be dangerous. However, I know several Catholic people where this is not the case. I think more and more Catholics are reading their Bibles and doing in-depth studies about its messages.

So perhaps this might be a sign of the times - whereby many will leave the church because they simply can't understand it anymore OR they could even turn to reading their own Bibles and studying the Word for themselves. Who's to say? Certainly not me. Please know that God is always in control. No matter how foolish we may think a decision might be. katiefish <><

ALL Religions have at least one common denominator... the Church Leaders on this planet are ALL HUMAN! So... it doesn't matter if it is a religion or a corporation... Human make mistakes and Humans have personal struggles. To say that the Catholic Church has more problems than any other Church is crazy... people are people no matter where you go.

"Catholic priests are control freaks." Some may be, but some Buddhist priests may be too. You are making "hasty generalizations" which are not logical at all. HUMANS maybe "Control Freaks"... why single out catholic priests?

Sorry... I'm not defending Benedict... I'm just pointing out that your thoughts are not totally thought through. Nowhere in your post do you actually give examples of how Benedict "trades truth for deception."

Please don't give up seeking the answer to your question, but try to formulate your question better. Give examples and try not to make hasty generalizations.

If I were a gambling man I would say that "most catholic priests" are NOT control freaks. Are most "humans" control freaks? I don't think so. A priest is a human... Nothing More!

You might want to try reading up a little more on this, because you're missing some facts.

Pope Benedict XVI (not Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger any more) wants people to have the OPTION of Latin services to promote universality in the Church. I.E., Not only are we all reading the same texts and saying the same prayers everywhere in the WHOLE WORLD on any given day, we're also saying/reading in the same language.

Pope Benedict XVI also strongly encourages people to read Scriptures daily. Yes, on their own. You know, own a Bible, open it up and read it. The Church even provides readings for each day. Today, it's Genesis 41:55-57; 42:5-7,17-24
Psalm 33 and Matthew 10:1-7.

And the Pope and the priests really DO want people to know the truth.

Benedict XVI isn't named after Benedict Arnold (that's an American person, btw, and the reference means little or nothing to anybody outside the U.S....the whole world doesn't revolve around us, dude).

Catholics DO read Scriptures, Catholics DO think for ourselves and Catholic priests are not at all control freaks. They expect us to be grown-ups and live out our faith without being led by the hand, unlike some fundamentalist Christian pastors who tell their people how to vote, what to wear, how long their hair can be, how often to beat their kids, etc.
Pope Benedict XVI isn't a "trader" of the true Christian faith any more than he is a traitor (which is what I think you meant to say) -- he promotes the love, worship and imitation of Christ. You might want to pick up a copy of some of his books and read with your own eyes what the Pope says about Jesus instead of letting some anti-Catholic, anti-Pope hate mongers do your thinking for you. It's really very inspiring.

It certainly seems that way. Throughout history the catholic church has emphasized the necessity of the church and its priests. Not only was the mass in Latin but people were burned at the stake for translating the bible from Latin into the language of the peasants.

Still, I will point out that this is also a problem for protestants, they just have a different dogma that is built on the teachings of Jesus. Everyone here would do well to remember that Jesus preached a direct connection between you and god. Churches were there to spread the word, not control it. The bible didn't exist and Jesus never said that it should be written or that it (or the pope) should be considered infallible. [Protestants should note that the bible they hold so dear was complied by a pope - he picked what was included and what was not.]

I don't think it's necessary to go back to Latin Mass, however, I understand that those who grew up with it prefer to have it that way. The Catholic Mass doesn't have a ton of scripture in it regardless of the language it's given in. There are generally three passages read and then interpreted or expounded upon in the homily by the priest. As someone who has never attended a Latin Mass, I'm fairly sure I could follow it since Mass is Mass is Mass regardless of where you are, and what language it's in. Catholics generally have Bible study groups apart from the church service to delve deeply into Scripture. Anyone who relies strictly on Catholic church services to learn about the Scripture isn't going to learn much. Priests in gneneral aren't control freaks - I'm not sure why you'd think that - they function similarly to any other congregation's ministers as teachers and guides for Scriptural study. I disagree with your opinions, and I'm not sure why, if you're not Catholic, it impacts your personal spiritual journey at all.

My opinion is you are totally wrong.

There are people who remembe the Latin Mass and they want to have that Mass available. The Mass will be said in Latin if the parishoners request it. There will still be mostly Masses in the native language.

Even when the mass was in Latin, the Scripture readings - three from the Old Testament, New Testament, and Gospel were proclaimed in the native language along with a sermon on the Scripture readings for that Mass.

Additionally, the Church is not saying that bibles are to be translated only into Latin. You can go to any bookstore and find a Catholic Bible with ALL of the books in it (I guess the Protestant leaders are trying to keep some books of the Bible from you). If the Catholic Church wanted to keep the Bible from the people, they would not publish their own translation of the Bible.

Also, nearly every Catholic Church has Bible Study classes for parishoners.

If you look at reality, you can see that your opinion is totally baseless.

I think that the current Pope acting like a complete moron in wanting to go back to the Dark Ages is going to ensure that Christianity falls even faster. He just may be the last Pope if he keeps up this behavior.

Man has always tried to take away from or add to the word of God. To replace His eternal love and character with the mortal fallible traditions of men. That is why we celebrate Easter (Easter stems from the Pagan festival honoring the Babylonian fertility goddess Ishtar) instead of Passover. And the catholic church doesn't endorse Sola Scripture (scripture alone).

They claim the pope is the vicar of Christ. But fail to realize that God is perfect. Perfection means to never change or to alter position of Law. His Law is perfect. There is no need to change what is perfect. To change what is perfect is to cause imperfection. God's law it is written in His testimony - the Bible "And why do you yourselves transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?" (Matthew 15:3). "When men transgress the commandments of God and go beyond what He has planned, their hearts become filled with evil. This is the exact pattern which Ha'Satan fell into in the beginning" (Ezekiel 28:12b-17).

The pope changes positions at will. He is thus, by no means the vicar of Christ - whom is the Son of God "You have seen Me (Jesus) you have seen the Father" John 14:8-9. Many people are being deceived by failure to realize this. Worst yet some are willfully negating truth "...and when I saw her (Whore of Babylon), I wondered with great admiration" Revelation 17:6.

There are good people in the "church" as with many other "churches". They will need to flee her organisations in order to become part of the universal, true, and virgin church of Jesus. The one in the HEART. "I heard another voice from heaven, saying, "Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive of her plagues; Revelation 18:4"

Hopefully they will not stray too far from the truth and become too hard at heart to heed the call.

God bless

I think the whole problem arises with people who don't know the proper use of the apostrophe. This is a sign of the end times.

I believe that the pope is doing his best to rewrite the Vatican II decisions to reflect what HE wanted them to say, back when he was just a regular pedophile priest. He is doing his best to become the antichrist, I would reckon, and doing a very good job of it.
