I'm tired about the same old sins that get picked on over and over these days.

So let's pick on a new one!

God said not to covet your neighbor's possessions. How about all those covetous people out there!?

You know what? Heck I'm guilty of that one... :(

I have a neighbor that has a pool. Their kids are in it nearly every day. I keep thinking to myself - when I get a house it will have a pool. So is that coveting? I don't want THEIR pool but my own pool?

Gluttony! I'm repenting of that sin. I've repented myself down 100lbs so I'm doing good. Got just a few more to go!

Broken Angel - that's exactly why I posted this silly question.

Focusing on sin is overrated.

If everyone focused more on being compassionate than being judgemental (what is "right and wrong") the details would start to take care of themselves.

~edit~ I kinda figured as much but someone had to state the "it's so obvious, they must be blinded by the glare to miss it." :-)

I covet things all the time which is why I shop all the time. I have pride also - sometimes too much. I can be lazy - just don't feel like doing stuff.

I think we are all guilty of some sins which is why we need to keep a close relationship with God.

Great Question :)

My neighbors have a pool and I covet it on a daily basis.

Michigan=temps in the 90's+insane humidity=Rachel having impure thoughts about her neighbor's pool.

I think that "coveting" is closer to "envy".

So, why do you want your own pool? Is it to spite them? Would you still want it even if they didn't have it?

How about the sin of bearing false witness? Any gossips or slanders out there?

I can honestly say I have no desire to maintain a pool, but I have had my eye on my neigbors pineapple plant, think he'd notice it gone?

really tho, it is the same as the "keeping up with the jones's", only thing people really seem to get is debt, its only a sin if you cant afford it and buy it anyway

I really believe that coveting (wanting what someone else has that will never be yours instead of what you could get for yourself) is one of the biggest self sins.

Example:
Wanting a nice house might make me work harder to buy one.
Wanting someone else's house is an empty desire. They already have it, and even a mirror of their house would not satisfy.

Wanting a nice wife might make me improve myself and look for someone to match those improvements.
Wanting someone else's wife would either be an affair (empty relationship) or a break-up (destroyed relationship).

I think it is very easy to look at someone else who is better off than you are and want what they have. I've got lots of friends that have things that I cannot afford to have, and I sometimes get caught into thinking about how much I would like to have them.

The thing that we should think about(and it is very difficult to do in today's world) is to not think about what we could have, but think about what God has already blessed us with.

Greed is a sin but you don't see the bible thumping right-wingers talking about that nearly as much as they talk about homosexuality.

Hypocrites.

I agree. . . .I would say most all of us have done that a few times, lol. . . . which is why many choose the others to pick on. ;)
