I just broke my laptop so I'm very likely going to need to buy a new one. I've been searching for a new one and they all have Windows Vista. My brother keeps telling me don't buy a computer with Windows VIsta because they suck.
I would just like to know, what is so bad about Windows Vista?
If Windows Vista is as bad as my brother is telling me, should I wait?

I can't seem to find one that has XP in it, except for Macs. They all have Vista.

I need the computer for Internet (like research and filling out forms), writing, and making cheap digital art.

Wasn't just my brother telling me. His friend's dad, who has a career in computers told me the same thing.

YES IT IS! Its very confussing to people who are not good with computers and to people who are. Its not as cut and straight foward as XP is. I have used both and XP is still by far the best and user friendly. Your only problem is going to be that almost all computers come with Vista now. You can buy the XP "downgrade" upgrade and most computer/software stores (staples, best buy, office max) and install that. The great thing about doing this is that since the new computer is ment for Vista your XP is going to run rediculiously fast and your going to have a whole lot of memory on your new laptop. GOOD LUCK

Vista is improving over time. It is important to get a computer with good credentials, such as at least 1 GB of RAM, preferably 2 GB. A large (and fast) harddrive is also important. The CPU will probably be okay as long as you avoid the low performance Celerons. You do need a computer with a good graphics card for some of the Vista features to work properly.

Vista is not bad - actually its rather brilliant. However, just like any new software it has its bugs. These are usually sorted out with regular updates which are available to you online.

The only problems you will encounter with Vista is that not all dll's that have in the past been available with other operating software is no longer available. Therefore you might find some specialised software wont run as you will get the error "missing dll's". These dll's should become available as new updates are relased.

Vista has some major compatibility problems with your hardware and software. I have 1 computer with Vista and it's been a learning experience trying to find compatible drivers for your last years printer and maybe you find a driver but your software won't work. Not sure where you can find a new computer with XP.

vista is pretty crapola...microsoft released 3 "critical" patches today to prevent malware - great
since vista is so new, there are a lot of bugs in it - i just had to download new drivers for the video card cuz it kept freezing
microsoft will eventually release patches to fix the problems, but who knows how long that will take. If you have problems with vista you can always install another operating system like xp if you want.

I bought my computer 2 months ago from best buy. every computer they displayed had vista. Why? Who knows. NOTHING is compatable with vista. I get on internet explorer (IE) and within ten minutes, IE shuts down. The only spam detector I found is AVG, but it doesn't stop the bugs. Even acrobat reader is messing up with vista. Good luck finding something that works.

windows vista does suck. a LOT of drivers are incompatible with vista, so it means many of your add-ons and many programs wont work with vista. since you want a laptop for digital art, id be careful if i were you, and cehck if my art programs will work on vista firstoff.

vista is also too secure. this might sound strange to you, but its true. its impossible to do any task on vista without having a million annoying popups from windows. and if you turn this option off, youll get different popups warning you why you shouldnt turn the warning popups off. see? too secure.

as far as i know, the only company who sells basic laptops with windows xp is gateway, so check them out: http://www.gateway.com/systems/category/327680012.php

hope that helps

Ur brother (no offense), is an idiot.
Yes, Windows Vista is bad, but only for computers that are running windows xp, and upgrade to vista.
If ur buying windows vista in a brand new computer from a retail store, then vista is the best windows u can get right now.
Tell Ur Brother that i have been in computers for 15 years now, and pay close attention to media news. i no wats better.
